Too Lazy To Spoogle* (*-Space Google) | text

[ The post drifts up onto the comms one evening, just a simple line of text to ask a simple question:]

guys, how do aliens know when other aliens are hot?

Seconded. What.

Asari only have one sex and reproduce by melding with their partner's nervous system, using the connection to "read" the DNA, and somehow applying that information to randomize parts of the child's DNA. It also basically merges the partners' consciousnesses briefly.

Look, it makes no sense, I know, don't ask me to explain more than that. I majored in shooting things, not xenobio.
nofortunateson: (yikes)

That makes two of us but you're still doing a heck of a job being a cultural ambassador here.

[personal profile] thebioticwoman 2017-09-22 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, they can do this with any species. Did I mention that part?
nofortunateson: (the hell you say)

[personal profile] nofortunateson 2017-09-22 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of afraid to ask how many species this has been tried across.

Gonna go out on a limb and say "all of the ones capable of consent."
nofortunateson: (yikes)

[personal profile] nofortunateson 2017-09-22 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
And they . . . enjoy that?
thebioticwoman: (001)

[personal profile] thebioticwoman 2017-09-22 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
The asari or everyone else?

Either way, the answer's "yes."

I didn't even get to the part about the sentient hivemind species that has to talk by puppeting other species' bodies.

Just for my clarification, are you talking about the Rachni or the Thorian?
thebioticwoman: (081)

[personal profile] thebioticwoman 2017-09-22 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a slightly longer pause than usual.]

Somehow I managed to forget there were two.

I meant the rachni.
calibrates_big_guns: (really?)

[personal profile] calibrates_big_guns 2017-09-22 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Possibly three.

[Because the Reapers seemed to be eerily on the same page - shared consciousness to some degree if not an actual hivemind.]

It doesn't make any more sense to me, for the record.

Liara kept trying to explain it to me and I kept telling her I only cared about the results.
thebioticwoman: (053)

[personal profile] thebioticwoman 2017-09-22 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[...Wait.

Shit.]

That came out wrong

[personal profile] calibrates_big_guns 2017-09-22 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't figure you were ready to settle down, Shepard ...

[He's not just letting that slip, Shepard.]
thebioticwoman: (090)

[personal profile] thebioticwoman 2017-09-22 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Sigh.

Oh well, roll with it.]

Mordin turned me down, so I just had to settle.
calibrates_big_guns: (really?)

[personal profile] calibrates_big_guns 2017-09-22 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Like you wouldn't be doing the same.]

Probably for the best. Always seemed like he was more married to his work than anything else.
thebioticwoman: (067)

[personal profile] thebioticwoman 2017-09-22 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Like white on rice.]

That's what happens when you fall for a species that doesn't form romantic attachments. I really should have known better.

That's kind of cool, actually. Are they a procreative sex-only species, or do they have non-procreative options?
thebioticwoman: (058)

[personal profile] thebioticwoman 2017-09-22 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
They have conscious control over whether the melding results in pregnancy.

[Which is a good thing because otherwise Shepard would owe some child support after ME1.]
the_civilian: (Thinking)

[personal profile] the_civilian 2017-10-24 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Do both of them have to want to procreate, or do accidents happen?
