[It has begun. With Apokolips so heavily damaged, the villains have genuinely had their backs pushed against a wall. They can't move it from where it is, so to avoid an orbital bombardment by the UP military, they have to move themselves. Pouring through stolen T-gates modified into boom tubes and through he Penitent's portals, Catastrophists and monsters have started to attack various UP worlds - but without much organization.]

[That means the Legion has at least one advantage here. During their short reprieve they managed to regroup and get ready to dispatch again fully prepared for a fight. The Catastrophists, on the other hand, are being tossed out into a conflict they're unprepared for with the expectation that they'll win through sheer numbers instead of tactics, experience, or skill.]

[After their respective briefings on the situations they're dropping into, as they gear up and prepare to launch from the threshold room and the Legion cruisers, Kid Quantum's words come to them over their comms:]

Brainy's plan to get to the missing Legionnaires, and then to the Miracle Machine using Star Boy's powers, is ready to deploy. But he says that the machine feeds on the background consciousness of sentients in the galaxies around it. Right now - to the surprise of no one - the United Planets and Second Galaxy are facing mass panic. Our job is to change that by the time Brainy pulls the Miracle Machine into our universe - or we risk having it fade from existence.

[Which will be no easy task.]

This isn't just a typical rescue mission or disaster response: we have to inspire hope. Galaxy-wide.

Now, the place we're starting from isn't a bad one. We've worked hard to bring the team where it's at right now. Some of you had to push through grief and loss to believe in the team again. Some of you had to dig deep and find a sense of idealism and connection to others to give you the strength to endure. Some of you had to push your usual worldview to the side and work with others you might never have allied with otherwise.

Regardless of how each of you relates to the team and its cause, the fact remains that your ability to adapt and survive is admirable - even exceptional.

[Some of them have embraced everything the team is wholeheartedly. Others have only adapted to the team and its ideals and protocols in their surface behavior. But it doesn't matter. That adaptability and willingness to work differently for the greater good is something to be proud of.]

But that alone isn't going to be enough for us to win today. And even though we have something worthwhile to fight for - the lives of countless innocents, our home worlds and loved ones, and even each other - the purity of our convictions and the importance of our cause aren't going to be enough to let us win, not all by themselves.

[Her voice changes from something stern and commander-like, to a tone that's far more dry.]

No, it's the absolute levels sprocking nass we've had to put up with so far. Government corruption poised against us, betrayals by people that claimed to be allies, cosmic beings that may as well have been gods, gladiatorial death arenas, the Time Trapper's otherworldly scenarios, spies and madmen and angels of the apocalypse - even giant planet-eating men in stupid hats. And so much more.

[An entire year of trials and triumphs, all in a row.]

We've dealt with such unbelievable levels of nass that the UP should have us on its payroll as sewage treatment engineers.

The forces poised against us thought they could destroy us or make us weaker and instead they just made us mad.

So when everyone looks back on this day they're not going to say it was the best we ever were, they're not going to say that we rose to new heights. Instead, they're going to say, "The Legion brought hope to the entire galaxy..." [Amusement enters her voice.] "Business as sprocking usual."

Chronoblivion and Its forces thought they could force their way into this universe and do whatever the sprock they wanted. Time to put them on their asses and show them the door.

Let's go, Legionnaires.

[A lot of things that have happened have made it seem like nothing is going in their favor, but now they have a lead on finding a weapon to defeat Chronoblivion, know how to find the missing Legionnaires and...well. Sometimes the Time Trapper actually does something useful.]

[Sometimes.]

Listen up, Legion. I need you all to get ready to dispatch tomorrow morning at 0500. Once Brainy's finished his preparations for retrieving the lost Legionnaires and the Miracle Machine, we need to move.

Also, while nothing's been confirmed, I have a feeling we're going to be seeing some activity from Chronoblivion's forces soon, because the Time Trapper sent us a little backup and it was probably for good reason.

[She can't help but smile at least a little.]

Which is to say that even though the rift on Phelolu sealed up, there are a few people that just suddenly appeared on the bridge that want to say hello.

[ooc: This is where returning characters can announce their return, get updated on what they've missed, reconnect with old friends, and maybe make some new ones before shit hits the fan.]

[Brainy hasn't slept since they retreated to the outpost, because the damn thing is a sprocking mess. Fortunately, he's not the only gearhead the Legion has, but he's still had to work his hardest to make order out of chaos, getting important systems online, retrofitting some of the older equipment to meet their current needs - even playing (sigh) plumber, and troubleshooting a major malfunctioning in the waste processing system.]

[There are many problems that need solving, but they needed breathable air and running water before everything else.]

[Now, he's finally in the pathetic, gutted excuse for a lab, working on Metron's throne. His original plan had been to offset the immense mental processing power it required by creating a vast network of linked minds, from volunteers among the team and staff - but with Legion World gone and most of the staff ferried to other places in the UP - they lack the manpower (mindpower?) for that now. There aren't enough minds to spread the processing of information over.]

[So instead, he does something else: he tries to make one mind temporarily fast enough and powerful enough to process what needs to be process to briefly access the information they need. And of course he chooses his own. Valeria and Merl potentially have the intellect but there's no way he'd ever put their minds at risk like this. Besides, he has something they don't at the moment - outside intereference fettering his full intelligence that's technically removable. ]

[His personality inhibitors are absolutely essential for him to even function, but the whole reason he needs them is that the Anomaly advanced his intellect measurably beyond a 12th level several years ago - causing it to devolve into chaos. So he makes the logical choice.]

Thanks to all the work we've done, the Outpost is "functioning" (and I use the term loosely) at a level that allows the team at least to function on a rudimentary, albeit pathetic, level. Now that I'm no longer being reduced to the role of glorified handyman, I've had time to develop a way to access the information in Metron's throne. We no longer have enough minds nearby to disperse the processing requirements of the throne via a telesthetic network like I'd originally planned, but I believe I've discovered a way to temporarily enhance my own intelligence enough to access the throne long enough to get the information we need.

It's almost certainly going to be...unpleasant, as I'll have to temporarily remove my personality inhibitors, but we've run low on options, and this should allow me to access it without suffering extensive brain damage, so...

[He takes off the little white implants on his cheeks and immediately winces as the mental chaos starts up, then he puts on a ridiculous and bulky looking headpiece covered in strange blinking diodes and wires.]

I'm broadcasting and recording the attempt on the off-chance I relay vital information during the process that my mind no longer has the storage and processing capacity to remember later.

[A pause, and then he adds sheepishly:]

Oh, and also in case I miscalculated and collapse with the resulting stroke and require emergency medical care, but the likelihood of that eventuality is fortunately minuscule, no need for concern.

[And up he hops into Metron's chair. Merl is nearby, sitting in his little hover-chair, manning some controls. "Are you sure this plan should be implemented, father?" he asks, a little nervously.]

Yes, Merl. It should be fine.

[Merl nods, and says gleefully, "Then I'm making a mental note so that I have ammunition the next time I want to engage in a reckless activity."]

How fortunate that it won't matter because I'll still say no.

[Merl pouts.]

Engaging systems in three, two, one. Engage.

[Merl pulls the lever, nearby equipment charges up and...then it explodes, causing the room to fill with smoke. But Merl is at least fine, safe behind a little forcefield wall. And then Brainy suddenly stumbles out of the smoke, weird headpiece askew, and with the lights on it blinking out. He's at least uninjured but...]

-- infinite beyond measure, calculate based on stellar mass, to the order of the Nth power. A microscopic black hole will be required but can be stabilized (it can be stabilized!) but we'll need someone with the ability to control gravimetrics - not Jazmin or Rider, they lack the finesse required, so who else -

Ah! Aha! Yes!

[He starts laughing maniacally.]

I know where they are! I know where they are and how to get to them, the walls can be breached with the right field harmonics -

[He disappears off screen, still rambling, and starts piling equipment into the middle of the room.]

- just need to go to Phelolu, but once we have him again, we can breach into the pocket of the Bleed where Metron hid the Miracle Machine from there -

[Things very quickly start whirring and lighting up and electricity starts arcing through things, and within minutes, Brainy's gone full mad scientist, and he frantically tries to build what he needs before the information fades and before his thoughts get so disorganized he needs to put his inhibitors back on again. ]

[He's so distracted by what he's doing that he, er, doesn't think to explain what he's doing, so someone may need to ask him. Merl isn't, he's just excitedly going along with Querl, helping wreck half the lab to cannibalize components, and enjoying the sheer chaos.]

[Kid Q's expression is grim as she faces the team from Legion World's Monitor Room -- for the very last time.]

[The team's voted and even though the solution isn't exactly ideal, there is no better option. They've all but lost Legion World, there's no way to stop the Catastrophists and Apokolips in a way that will allow them to be arrested instead of killed.]

[Technically, she has the right to overrule the decision, but she knows she shouldn't, and she knows the temptation to lies more to do with not wanting to relinquish their home more than anything else.]

[But homes can be rebuilt and every time in the past that the Legion's been lost or displaced, they've endured. Adapted. Survived. And in the end, they'd rallied and refused to let the conditions they'd found themselves in define them.]

This is Kid Quantum. Legion World has been compromised. This is officially a code white situation.

I'm now authorizing a full-scale evacuation of Legion World, and intiating self-destruct of Legion World. Legion Leader authorization Alpha Alpha Sigma Six Six Nine Two Twerflaz Two.

[The voice recognition kicks in. The panel she's at initiates a scan of her palm (and her DNA) and a retinal scan.]

["INPUT ACCEPTED," says the computer.]

Initiate silent countdown. [All the bad guys are frozen but there's no reason to announce the self-destruct where their enemies will see once time stops freezing.]

Set self-destruct for 40 minutes on my mark. Mark.

["SELF-DESTRUCT TIMER INITIATED," says the computer. "SILENT COUNTDOWN INITIATED. NO FURTHER WARNINGS WILL BE GIVEN."]

[The klaxons keep blaring and the lights keep flashing. A computer voice repeats everywhere:

"FULL EVACUATION INITIATED. IF POSSIBLE, RETURN TO YOUR STATION FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. FULL EVACUATION INITIATED..."
]

All Legionnaires and staffers are to take advantage of the timefreeze to initiate full evacuation protocols. All staffers are to report to their home department to receive instructions. All Legionnaires will be receiving personalized instructions. We'll need some of you to help with evaccing staff and equipment alongside packing your belongings - especially the speedsters.

[Kid Q taps at a console to send preprogrammed evac instructions and some specific instructions to staff and team alike.]

Due to the Legion Outpost being so small, we'll only be taking a skeleton crew of staffers, and conditions on board are likely to be cramped and far more harrowing due to the dangers ahead. I would like any staffers that feel they're willing to face the risks to activate their beacons on the emergency channel so we know which personnel to collect for -

[The emergency network, used during situations where personnel need to be evacuated, rescued, or quickly moved due to emergencies lights up as every staffer on board hits their beacons and indicates they want to come along.]

[Every single one. Even the injured in Medbay.]

[Kid Q is visibly moved. Even now, as Legion World falls apart around their ears, even after some of them dying due to the boarding parties and monster tentacles, they're refusing to give up on the team.]

Unfortunately, we won't have room for all of you, but I appreciate the sentiment. I'll be compiling a list of the staffers we'll be bringing along.

[She says the following with great solemnity.]

Once this conflict is over, I hope to see you all on the other side. If we're very lucky, someday we might have a chance to rebuild what we're sacrificing today - we might have a chance to rebuild what all of you helped us build in the first place.

It was an honor serving with you all.

Long live the Legion.

[They have enough time to do this, but only just. Each of them will have to pack their things (a pack's worth of them, if that. Some of them might have to help move the prisoners, or equipment. Then they'll either threshold out or fly away on the cruisers or the Bouncing Boy. At the very end, Kid Q will have Legion World's thrusters aim it towards Apokolips (so that it'll collide right as it explodes) and then threshold off after everyone else has evacuated.]

[There are hull breaches all over the Legion World and the hull is groaning despite the shield patches and mechanical emergency shutters. The station shakes with each new impact and the shields are sparking outside. Important areas of the ship are in lockdown to protect the staffers working in them. Some of the hallways are blocked off by barely-contained fires or debris.]

[This situation is now untenable. The creature outside can't be dislodged, and the station is getting utterly bombarded. Kid Q has ordered everyone back inside and has already had to thwart a boarding party of Catastrophist parademons trying to enter Obs Deck.]

[That's why she's looking a little worse for where when she comes on the comms again. As she speaks, one of the medics is helping put her arm in a sling - it looks like her shoulder's been dislocated.]

Brainy! We're running out of time and options. Have you made any progress on figuring out the nature of the creature?

[Apparently Shellee and Tammee - er, Gertix and Yil - have hit the ground running, because it's the day after they quit at Neutrino News and already they're set up in their new digs at Earthlive News, where they were hired by actual reporter Hannah Wells.]

[The two look different without their glam filters. Oh, sure they have a little makeup on, but their eyes are less enlarged and the flaws on their appearance are more visible. They also don't have a pink and blue glow anymore. And the fake smiles are gone. They have the serious and collected expressions of actual newscasters.]

[The words "Breaking News Update" scroll across the bottom of the screen. The video is a little static-ey, like there's interference, but apparently Earthlive News has invested in some heavy duty emergency signal-boosting tech.]

Gertrix: This is Gertrix Shur -

Yil: - and Yil Bak -

Gertrix: With a breaking news update from Earthlive News.

Yil: According to satellite imagery and eyewitness accounts from all over the UP, strange constructs are warping into orbit around multiple UP planets.

[Grainy video from a satellite shows strange structures floating around Braal, made of some unknown material. They're spiky and have eyes in the middle. The eyes are all directed towards the planet.]

Yil: So far, reports indicate that these constructs have been spotted around Earth, Colu, Braal, Rimbor, Titan, and Imsk, with more appearing as we speak. We'll continue listing new planets as this report goes on.

[New planets continue to be listed at the botton of the broadcast, scrolling across the screen: Daxam, Zuun, Talok IV...]

Gertrix: The nature and origin of the constructs are still unknown, but according to UPgov, they're thought to be related to the threat of Chronoblivion, as they appear to be emanating from the area of space where Chronoblivion has breached our universe. Efforts to communicate with the constructs seems to be unsuccessful, according to UPgov experts.

Yil: Unfortunately, intel about the constructs is thin due to widespread interference in long-range sensors and long-range communications between the Titanet Towers. Top UPgov scientists believe the constructs to potentially be responsible for the disruption. While communication between worlds is still possible, it's very limited.

Gertrix: [Listens to her earpiece.] This just in, UPgov has put into place a full state of emergency for all UP worlds. Authorities are advising all UP citizens to shelter in place, gather up emergency supplies within their homes, and to limit Titanet communications as much as possible so governments and law enforcement can have their vital communiques prioritized on Titanet networks.

[Click here for emergency information and links to official UPgov instructions.]

Yil: While communications are limited, the Science Police, Galactic Emergency Guard, and Legion of Superheroes are reported to now be in communication and will be dispatching to respond to the situation shortly. Authorities are advising UP citizens to remain calm and stay off the T-gate network and public thoroughfares, to avoid mass panic and allow law enforcement freedom of movement.

Gertrix: Here at Earthlive news we will continue broadcasting live to ensure the UP public is informed about ongoing news updates, as well as providing resources on emergency information, and information that will allow UP citizens to safely shelter in place.

[The news report goes on but by now UPgov and the Science Police have finally broken through the interference and managed to communicate with Legion World. Klaxons start blaring on Legion World and they don't have any more time to watch the broadcast.]
