[ TEXT ] SENDING OUT AN S.O.S. TO THE WORLD
Quick Check in for Members of Project Freelancer, the UNSC, and our mutual associates- or anyone that wants to get word out about themselves having changed or not changed or...whatever. Has questions? This is Agent York and Delta, so far we're unaffected by this time ripple thing. Connie, North, Wash, Grif, Chief, Theta, Cortana, Locus, Azucar, Parker, Pidge, Fareeha, Amélie - and anyone else I'm forgetting, shoot me a text back, alright?
I'll deliver pancakes and blankets or other care package items if needed. If you'd rather come talk in person swing by my habitat, I'll be hanging in the bar. Directions are below. Also, Jason- buddy? Swing by, I feel like I owe you a beer.
[ In neat green lines there's a little holographic map showing how to get to York's dive bar from the recipient's current location, wherever they might be. ]
Specific refreshments are available upon request.

[voice]
UNSC reporting. Who's in charge here?
[ He is outside the chain of command oh god this is the worst. ]
[voice] [private]
Spartan. We need to talk.
[She makes very, very sure his HUD is displaying her true IFF data; Cortana's not above using the family resemblance to her advantage, but she's not going to pretend to be Halsey. Well, not with John. She'd absolutely pull that trick on a non-Spartan.]
[private]
An AI. ONI. Oh thank god. He's disoriented and lost and finally something is familiar. ]
What's happening?
[ What's happening is it's 2526, Circinius IV is burning, and he needs to get back to Blue Team now. ]
[private]
2526. The Circinius IV disaster, to be precise. God, he thinks WINTER CONTINGENCY is still in effect.]
Severe temporal distortions.
[This would be easier if he'd had enough socialization for pop culture. At least he spent an impressionable decade being trained to believe everything said in Halsey and thus Cortana's voice is gospel. That should help...right up until it makes things worse.]
We've both been pulled out of normal spacetime. We are functionally outside time as far as the universe is concerned. Your logs indicate you're deployed to Circinius IV. No time is passing for the rest of Blue Team, Petty Officer. They'll be fine.
[No, she can't read his mind, but she doesn't have to.]
[private]
He doesn't relax much, though. ]
How do I get back?
[ Do they know how to get him back? If not, he'll find out. The pieces are clicking together for John.
The AI's voice is bothering him, it's too familiar, but he's completely dug in on the other concern first. ]
[private]
For the moment? Wait. Right now the spacetime continuum is like unnavigably high seas. We can't do anything but wait for the waves to die down.
[And then he'll snap right back to hell. Cortana's not sure how she feels about that. The galaxy needs him, but he is going to pay dearly to buy all their lives...and he wouldn't thank her for interfering.]
[private]
[ John disapproves and is, for a moment, very very very fifteen. ]
[private]
Give me a little credit, Spartan. The training facilities here are excellent, and there are extensive artificial biomes if you're more interested in challenging the environment than an opposing force.
[She then gets much less Halsey and more herself:]
You desperately need a firmware upgrade, anyway, and that'll take some acclimation time.
[Nothing against her creator circa 2526, but Cortana's got a quarter-century of Mjolnir improvements to work from, and she can give even the earliest iteration of the Mark IV a nice tuneup.]
[private]
It was current four days ago.
[ He'd accept that maybe something new ha been put together quickly, but the desperately seems odd. ]
[private]
Yeah...I'm a better programmer than Dr. Halsey.
[Sorry Mom but it's true.]
[private]
[ He's... feeling this situation out. John knows how smart AI's are made, and that's sort of worrying now that he's established nothing is on fire right now. ]
[private]
[He might be able to figure them out, though.
It really is a sign of how desperate they were during the late war years that no one questioned the smart AI who was a near-twin of the still-living Catherine Halsey.]
[private]
[ And he's off and chewing that over. ONI doesn't think he needs the details, fine, but that doesn't mean he's not curious. There's always a certain satisfaction in figuring out something people don't want him to know, even if those people aren't the enemy.
But for now... ]
I'll... train.
[ Fine, he'll go to his room and play with his toys, but you can't make him like it. ]
[private]
Well. There's also the cafeteria.
[She knows you like dessert, kid.]
[private]
[ ...That does make things a little better, though. ]

[voice]
[ Delta, dear that he is, offers the somewhat outdated IFF data required to add some weight to the claim. It's- he doesn't think about it, just falls in to habits he gave up decades ago. ]
Overall? Different story. We've been working with a non-militant organization, that info I've got in a briefing packet.
[voice]
[ A sergeant. Well, good goddamn. John's rank is the naval answer to a corporal, York and Delta have him. Cortana's IFF is even further out from his point in the timeline than theirs, and if it isn't causing problems, they have nothing to worry about. ]
Petty Officer Third Class SPARTAN-117 reporting.
[ His existence is classified, he hopes this strange sarge is clear to know about him. This could get super awkward. ]
I've been contacted by an AI named Cortana. She's... explained some aspects of the situation. I'd appreciate any intel you have, Sir.
[voice]
Cortana's ONI and trustworthy, I can tell you that much 117. [ It should be weird how easy it is to fall back to this, but it isn't. ] Report to the location provided in the map attached to this broadcast and I'll walk you through the details.
[voice]
But they're on the same side of the war, and even if ONI is lying to him about something? They have a reason for it. He just hopes that if that's the case, it's not a reason that will get him and his team killed. ]
Affirmative.
[ Openly navigating the halls of the space station feels wrong, he's too exposed. He finds himself creeping a little, checking corridors for people and using his map and motion tracker to avoid them on his way to the hab deck. But one way or another, S-117 will report. ]
Action
So the bar is- well. Unchanged. The screens where he and Delta compile data are larger in an effort to look at least a little more serious but a long walk up through what looks like a dirt road in the middle of texas grassland is still a relatively laid back experience. York opens the door for John and- jesus. Even as a kid? Huge. ]
Come in, grab a seat, Delta's got the packet ready for you.
[ No uniform, no dogtags, but the posture's right. The clipped cadence that drags his usual drawl inward till it's hammered flat and firm is all the proof of rank he's got, but it might be enough. ]
Action
John eyes the offered seat speculatively. ]
Will it hold my suit, sir?
[ This is the voice of a kid who has definitely, definitely broken a chair by now because he wasn't thinking about it. He's a super soldier, but there's just a flicker of a normal teenaged boy in there worrying about embarrassing himself in front of someone important. ]
Action
It'll hold. Delta?
[ The AI is back to his fully armored holographic appearance to give a little more weight to their illusion, flickering to life at the bar just at John's elbow. ]
Action
Alright. I'm ready.
[ Please inform him, he has a feeling it's going to be a long day. ]
Re: Action
The situation's ongoing. We're still updating what we have as more information becomes available. Your infopacket will automatically update as we add or edit details.

Understood.
[ He hesitates a little, though. It's just kind of hard to believe a lot of it. The Covenant showing up had been a total bolt from the blue, sure, but at least that was plausible. But here he has multiple sources that should be trustworthy telling him about alternate worlds and time travel and superheroes.
It's also semi-distressing that his code name is a rank he does not have. It feels so wrong. ]
I'm to... sit tight and wait?
[ That also feels so wrong. ]
