System Crash

[After Brainy and Babbage disappear, cameras start broadcasting from where they were taken to. The entire encounter is shown to the team and the rest of the UP. When Earth is taken through the portal, Legion World lurches, and at the end of it all, when the traps are tripped, it lurches again. Lights all over the ship go out, fires starts, systems fail. Only lockdown procedures that Brainy himself put in place, to protect Legion World’s most vital systems if he were ever compromised by telepathy or other influences, keep the viruses from self-destructing the ship or turning off life support -- but they’re certainly trying to.]

[The network goes back up again fairly quickly, however, but it’s using a much older, inferior form of networking. Something a little more distance-based and analog, a little less hackable.]

[They’ll be able to communicate again, but there’s a lot of interference. Sometimes the video goes out during video calls and sometimes audio cracks up. Text seems to be the only form of communication that’s guaranteed to go through every time.]

[ooc: People can react and start planning things on this post. This is also where information about the Spectre's attack will get dropped.]

It may come to that with Brainiac 8. If she can't be captured alive safely, Legion protocol dictates that fatal force would be acceptable.

[Kid Q nods her acknowledgement, even if it's reluctant. With a threat of this caliber, they may not be able to take her in alive.]

But Brainiac 6 is a child. UP law dictates that despite their genius, Coluan children under the age of 8 can't even be tried in court. Their brains aren't fully formed and aren't capable of impulse control or rational moral judgment. It's their parents or legal guardians that are usually held legally responsible for their actions, for not keeping them under control.

And if he's being further mentally impaired by what Colugov did, it's even less his fault this is happening. He needs that inhibitor removed and psychiatric treatment.

I want him brought in alive, even if it might be impossible to do so with him totally unharmed.

[Widowmaker didn't care to harm children unless ordered to, but she couldn't help but acknowledge that the insistence on the child's life was going to make this far more difficult than it needed to be. And it was already going to be very difficult.

But her superior had given her a green light on many things. She still believed the Time Trapper had brought her here because the Legion needed someone capable of doing what was necessary when the time came. So, she couldn't just leave it at this.]

Acknowledged regarding the child. As for the woman, she knows very well what our protocols are. She will be prepared for capture attempts. If we follow established protocols with someone of that intellect, we will fail. We need to do something different here. Something they think you are unwilling to do.

Give the order to me, Commandant. Only me. Send the team in with intent to capture and allow me to end this when the timing is right.

[She grits her teeth, and has to really think about it. This is big. This is very nearly Darkseid big, and as much as she doesn't want to acknowledge it, this is not one of those missions where they have many options. It's not an easy order for her to give, but she still knows she has to give it.]

I'm not risking another team by telling them they're limited to capture. All teams will be authorized to take lethal action if capture isn't an option.

...But I will send you in as an independent agent in case the others fail at capture or...elimination.

You're authorized.

[Widowmaker was careful to keep herself from smiling wickedly that she had finally been given the order to kill. It was going to be so satisfying to put a bullet into Brainiac 8's head. But even that level of emotion was inhibited by her own power, making it easy to simply finish loading Widow's Kiss and rest the rifle against her shoulder.]

It will be done. [About time her skills were being put to proper use.]

I suggest not telling the others about my presence; the less they know, the less likely the Brainiacs will detect me through them. Once I am deployed, I will be off all communication systems until the target is neutralized.
