[ There's a perplexed looking young man in view of the screen. Anyone familiar with Locus will probably recognize him, but something's definitely different. That tell-tale x-shaped scar? Gone. His hair is shorter, hanging just below his jaw. Moreover, his eyes don't quite hold that thousand-yard-stare to them just yet.

He looks, well. Teenaged.

He's also holding Luna up to view. She's purring heavily, but he appears bewildered by her presence, if anything. ]

Does anyone know whose cat this is? I just...found her here when I woke up.

I don't know, I don't remember anything weird happening before I woke up here. I mean, I guess I could have been drugged and kidnapped. [She shrugs. Hey, her mom is a big deal; it could happen.]

[Which is also why she's keeping some of those details close to the chest for now, wait until she finds a clue one way or another about how trustworthy this place is.]

Who did you sign on with? [His country's own defense force? Overwatch? GASP maybe Talon? She watches him intently for his answer.]

The UNSC. I'm seeing their insignia here, so it must be a facility of theirs.

[ He huffs quietly. ]

Why would anyone kidnap you?

[ That seems highly unlikely. Especially if she's not bound or anything. ]

UNSC? [She frowns, she's never heard that particular acronym before, and she tries to think it through,] Are they part of the United Nations?

[SECRET ORGANIZATION MAYBE?!]

[Which is why she's a little confused, but at the same time she can't really account for why she'd be here at all. However, if he's asking, then he doesn't know who she is or who she's connected to. She gives him a careful look, debating for a moment how much she should tell him.]

To get to my mom.

Your mom?

[ Someone important, then. She doesn't seem surprised at all by the idea, and she's not too young to just make something like that up.

Although not knowing about the UNSC? He'd grown up with the war around them. Signing up had only been a matter of time. ]

The United Nations Space Command. You didn't know that?

[Sage nod. Another hesitation, but since this guy seemed alright and also kind of clueless (making her doubt kidnapping but at the same time if that wasn't what happened, why was she here?), she presses on;]

She's one of the founders of Overwatch.

[So, yes. Someone important. And while they were in a time of relative peace since bringing down the Omnic uprising, even peacekeeping organizations had their enemies and Fareeha had been warned about talking to strangers perhaps even more stringently than your average kid on the street.]

[When he continues, though, her eyes grow wide,]

Space Command? Have you been to Horizon? Or, are you going, is that what you signed up for? Will you get to meet the monkeys there? I think it's really cool what they're trying to do! [She's practically wiggling in excitement!]

Horizon? Is that a new colony?

[ Monkeys? What in the world...

Okay, no, he's going to make sense of this. He leans closer, a little sterner. ]

I signed on to fight the Covenant. The ones who started the Great War. Remember?

It's the Lunar colony.

[She frowns back at him, a little unsettled by his slight change in demeanor and the fact that he's really not making sense.]

You mean .... the Omnic uprising? I don't know that I've heard of them called the Covenant. ['Great War' sounded about right, though.] Was it a regional group, uh .... faction?

No, I mean the Covenant. What's an Omnic?

[ Alright. This. This is getting a little strange. And he gets the feeling they're not talking about the same war, anymore. ]

[She sits back, frowning deeply and tilting her head as if he'd just spoken in tongues.]

I mean ... Omnics. The robots? There was a war, a lot of people died.

[This was really starting to feel weird. What rock had he been hiding under?]

There still is a war. But it's against the Covenant races. A collection of alien species that want to exterminate humanity.

As far as I know, there are no robots in the war.

Aliens? There are no aliens ...

[She looks at him squarly for a moment; honestly now she's concerned about him. Did he think the Omnics were aliens?]

Are you okay?

[ His eye suddenly twitches. Just faintly, but it's there. ]

My home planet didn't destroy itself, so yes. I think there are.

[ Obviously she's just...very sheltered. Confused. She mentioned her mother was military. Maybe she's being told something else, something fantastical, to protect her. ]

[Another frown, another head tilt,]

Home planet? We've only got the one ...

[Oh no, she was right in the thick of it. Not fighting it herself, obviously, but her friends were on the front lines; her mother and Jack and Reinhardt and the rest ... she knew very early on about the war.]

[It just wasn't Locus's war.]

Then I don't think we come from the same place.

[ It's the only logical explanation. He knows he's telling the truth, she believes what she's saying. Something's not matching up, for whatever reason.

She doesn't seem of an age to simply make this sort of thing up. ]

Is there anyone around you you know? Your mother or...

[She'll find out about time ripples in her conversation with York, and eventually she'll grow curious and leave her room, but for now she's still under the impression wherever she is; it's on Earth as she knows it. Which means she's still regarding Locus with a fair bit of wariness.]

I haven't seen anyone familiar, yet.

[She does miss her mother already but she's not going to mention that. Just going to be strong and stoic. Yup. She's got this. Totalllllly got this.]

[ Okay. This might be a little more serious in that case. At the very least, it doesn't seem like a good idea for her to be left alone when no one's very clear on what's going on, or how far from home they really are.

His brow furrows briefly in thought. ]

I'm Sam. What's your name?

[A long moment of hesitance, she's still not sure about this.]

Fareeha.

Fareeha.

[ It's pretty. And he gives her a very small smile. ]

Your mom has a rule about going places with strangers, I'm sure. Mine did, and we weren't really all that special. But if we know one another, but then we're not technically strangers.

[ At this, Luna gives a might stretch and a yawn, before lifting herself up to resettle across Sam's shoulder, head bumping against his ear. ]

[She rolls her eyes.]

My mom said people might say that. Knowing someone's name doesn't mean I 'know them' know them. You're military, not allergic to cats, and you go by Sam. That doesn't tell me much.

[But, she's still here talking to him, so obviously she's not convinced he's a bad guy.]

Alright. What would you need to know about me?

[ There. Make it simple for everyone. That should be easy, right? ]

[She thinks for a moment, thinks about the people she has in her life and why they make her feel safe and protected, then she looks at Sam directly;]

Why did you join the military?

My father was a soldier. My grandmother, too. I wanted to be like them, to protect people.

[ That one's almost too easy. It barely takes a moment's reflection. ]

[She smiles, his answer - and the lack of hesitation - tells her a lot.]

It's nice to meet you, Sam.

[ And he smiles, albeit faintly. ]

Nice to meet you too, Fareeha.

Do you want to come see the cat? She's very friendly.

[ He knows better than to insinuate that she wouldn't manage on her own. He knows how well he'd take something like that, at her age. ]

[She nods. She's also getting a little cabin fever and wouldn't mind leaving this room.]
