[Widowmaker had finally extracted herself from all the rigamarole that surrounded a new arrival to make her way to the Mess Hall. With a cup of something almost as blue as the color of her skin sitting on the table before her along with her rifle in its shorter Assault mode, she set the omnicom up so she didn't have to hold it in her hand.

What she did have in her hand was the ring they'd given her upon taking that oath. As if an oath was binding...]

I can certainly understand the need for a vetting process, but it appears to be rather pointless to subject would-be saviors to such repetitive examinations when the results do not change. What is the phrase...? [She idly rolled the ring between her fingers as she thought a moment.] Ah, yes. 'Beggars can't be choosers.'

Perhaps I am simply... special. [There was a slight upturn of her lips at that last word.]

[She probably didn't need the reminder, but now Velvet knows how awkward that sort of argument looks to an uninvolved bystander, anyway, and she probably doesn't need to know she's a hypocrite for judging this territorial yelling match either, but she eventually turns the feed off, disgruntled and irritated at being dragged into someone else's personal horseshit by the sheer coincidence of wanting to pay attention to the public messaging feeds at just the wrong time to catch all that.]

[With a grumble, she goes back to browsing the informational data packets supplied to prospective interplanetary migrants she'd asked for, minus the background noise of the video feed this time.]

[Still, she thinks later, if she actually decides she would rather hide in plain sight in their ranks after all instead of dealing with them as a potential watchdog all the time wherever else she chooses to go, this is the sort of inter-teammate nonsense it's probably best to at least dimly know might come up ahead of time.]
