[The video snaps into focus instantly, giving everyone a good look at Blue Rose chatting with a technician about adjustments to something in her hab. Given the half-finished look of the place, she's strutting through while everyone's still hard at work, making sure everything's just how she wants it. Better to do it now while they're there, after all. She beams at the camera for a moment.]

Hello, everyone! You'd think there'd be some kind of ceremony with a meeting or something. [Oh well.] I'm told this is probably where I'll be staying for the next few weeks until we've wrapped up this whole Chronoblivion situation, so I thought I'd extend a hand and introduce myself to everyone. Obviously I'm one of the newer arrivals. You can call me Blue Rose, or maybe Karina if I'm out of costume. One or the other, please. [She's well aware that there are some cultural difference here, but you've got to draw the line somewhere. She turns to a worker and waggles her fingers.] The softer yellow. The other shade would glare a bit, don't you think? Oh, you don't see the color? Well. Ah. Take my word for it. [She coughs and turns back.]


It's a pleasure to meet all of you! Really, it is. I don't think I've ever worked with so many NEXTs at once! It's kind of exciting. Anyway, why don't I talk a little about myself? Let's see, I'm eighteen years old. I've been a Hero with Titan Industries for almost four years now. I understand that's longer than a few of you, but I'm always willing to lend an ear if you've got any problems. [As long as they're not stupid problems.] I'm an elemental-type NEXT, I can make ice. I'd offer a demonstration, but I'd hate to interrupt the workers here by making a mess. So something small. [She holds up a hand and her eyes glow blue, with an accompanying aura. Slowly, a frosty rose forms between her fingers.] Tada!

Anyway, in addition to being a hero, I'm also an idol! I was looking forward to releasing my third album soon, but I think that's been put on hold. I don't think that will mean much here, though. Even if it wasn't another universe, a thousand years is a long time for music to remain popular, isn't it? Maybe I'll work on something new in my free time. [She turns away again when someone asks her something. She shakes her head, handing them the rose.] No, just a normal piano. I don't know how to work that one! Oh, just give me both, I'll learn that new one. Oh, can you add some cameras? I might start a new blog, and showing people how I work would be good. [And then she's back like she wasn't interrupted.]

Well, that's probably enough about me. If you've got any questions, feel free to ask! But, really, I'd rather hear about you all right now. Why don't you introduce yourselves?

[ He has realized, now that he's trying to start a conversation, that he is dealing with some sort of pro at interviews. That was a LOT of cotton candy talk - sweet and delicious, and absolutely no substance. Damn, she's good. ]

So, two questions. One, and I've always wanted to know this, do ice powers give someone a natural lower temperature? Two - do you do snow? Because I could use your help with something.

[Well. She'll let that 'Karina' slide for now. Yes, she's in costume, but it's not like they're in public. And, yes. She is good, thank you for noticing.]

[Huh. Those are some... Actually, she doesn't think she's ever heard that first question before.]

Well, my body temperature's rather normal, but I don't really get cold, either. I don't think I've ever had my temperature taken while I'm in a freezing environment. And, yes, I could do snow... [It's just another form of ice, after all. She narrows her eyes a little at Robbie, suspecting shenanigans.] How messy is this 'something' going to be?

Hello Karina! My name is Kubo. I'm a storyteller. I use music to tell my stories, so we might have some things in common!

[He plays a little riff on his shamisen, and a piece of his orange paper folds itself into a rose in imitation of Karina's.]

I have a lot of questions, though, because I'm from a time way before most of the people here. Stop me if I ask too many! My first question is: What's an idol?

A storyteller, huh? [How folksy. The little guitar thing reminds her of some of that stuff Origami Cyclone listened to. Guess it had to come from somewhere.] That's an interesting ability you have there! Do you have to play music to manipulate the paper, or is that just some dramatic flair you added for me?

[She steps into the sound studio, it's a bit quieter there, to answer.]

An idol is... Well. This is going to sound like I'm playing myself up a bit, I'm afraid! [She smiles a little.] An idol is, well. To put it simply, a star that's been assisted by an outside sponsor. [A manufactured celebrity, really.] Supported by my sponsor, I play music, I make appearances on television shows and act in movies, things like that. I work for them and make them a lot of money and they help me reach the widest audience possible.

Did that help explain things?

[She doesn't primarily regard herself in terms of her powers or superheroing in general, so it doesn't occur to her to list them even though Karina did, because who cares?]

I don't care if you use my real name. I've never had a secret identity.

[At least partly because she's obviously nonhuman, what with the pointy ears, but mostly because what's a villain going to do, start something with Namor and thus the entire very warlike kingdom of Atlantis?]

[Like Barnaby. Well, hopefully she was friendlier. And could stand up to the mental pressure of being 'on' every time they're in public. Karina's already mentally writing her off as someone to be seen with outside of her costume.]

[Well she seems pretty confident about this whole universe-saving situation. A few weeks? It wasn't impossible, but there also wasn't a deadline so Jason had a feeling things weren't going to be that easy. There were some people who had been here quite awhile after all.]

Hi...Ka--er--Blue Rose [right, using her costume name. He hadn't had anyone really insist on that before, but maybe he hadn't met as many people used to being heroes. He still forgot he HAD a superhero name sometimes.]

I'm Jason Grace or Bolts. It sounds like you have a lot of experience as a hero. Is it hard to juggle that with being an idol or is that something common where you're from?

[Jason doesn't follow that kind of thing, but he knows how much Piper's dad works as a famous actor, so he can only imagine how that would be twice as much work if you're also saving the world or even a city on a regular basis.]

My powers are electricity and wind-based and I guess you could say I inherited them from my father. I just turned 16 a few months ago -- though I thankfully got to celebrate that at home, well, my home world anyway. We were in the middle of a quest, so it wasn't exactly anything big. [Which reminds him, before he starts rambling.] I have hero experience too, though it's a little different. Let's just say it's less fighting criminals and rescuing civilians and more about fighting monsters and trying to prevent wars against titans and gods.

No, I'm the only one. [Then again, there's Nathan running his own company.] I can't lie and say it's been easy. Balancing my schoolwork with my careers has been difficult at times, but I have great support from my parents, friends, and fans, so I've always been able to push through.

[She's repeated that so often that she doesn't even sound rehearsed anymore.]

Electricity and wind is a pretty strong combination! I know Heroes who work with one or the other, but not both. I'm impressed! It sounds like you're working with things way beyond what I'm used to. [Then again, it was more likely that he's just being figurative when he's talking about gods and monsters. Either way, flattery wouldn't hurt.]

Fire can be a bit tricky, from what I've seen. It doesn't allow for a lot of hard shaping, does it?

NEXTs are Noted Entities with Extraordinary Talents. In short, people with powers. And, don't worry. Nothing was ever lost by asking for clarification.

Honestly, after hearing about an all-powerful whatsit that wants to destroy reality and everything they know, Karina's decided to at least try to take things at face value. After all, here she is, in space, with actual aliens. A thousand years into the future.]
