You matter to them more than their opinions should matter to you.

Like you said: they have their own opinions. They saw us do things that didn't fit their values, and they're angry.

That doesn't make them right, bit that doesn't mean that you can change their minds. The harder you fight for me, the more they'll stay convinced their opinion is correct. Plus, there'll always be people who use anonymity to be nasty - they think that if their words aren't attached to their name, then they won't have to face any consequences, and they're usually right about that.

So leave them alone. They don't have the courage to talk to me themselves, and trying to change their minds only makes things harder on you.

Because it's not right, but sometimes it's the lesser of two evils. We're talking about people who take a challenge as a victory - if they make you mad, they think they've won. The only way to beat them is not to play their game. Let them think they're unimportant and they'll crawl back into their holes.
