[video] With Great Power Comes Great Irresponsibility

[ Grif is in high spirits today. He seems to actually be in one of the training rooms for once, which makes that a lot weirder. ]

Hey guys. There are a bunch of weirdos running around and it's been a while since we talked about powers. So guess what we're going to do today?

[ 'We' because he expects participation, dammit! ]

And because I'm feeling generous, I'll start. Guess who learned a new thing?

[ He points at himself with both thumbs and backs up, revealing a line of targets. He steps back, lines up his shoulder with them, and winds up his arm like a softball pitcher. He doesn't stop. Grif's arm blurs as he speeds up, and finally the force of the moving air is enough to tip over the nearest target. But only the nearest one. He stops, gestures at it with definite pride, and continues. ]

So let's talk about your powers because we already know mine are pretty awesome.

[ Of course they are, Grif. ]

Has anybody else figured out anything cool? And if you're new: I'm Grif and this is basically my job around here. Tell me what you got, because I'm still way disappointed about the lack of eye lasers we got going on on this team. I could read profiles, but who has time for that crap?

If I know you already... I don't know. Injury status report? What did you have for lunch? I'm just bored, okay?

((( This is a free for all mingle post! Grif will reply to everyone who responds, but if you want to have a character jump into a conversation with anybody you are absolutely welcome and, in fact, encouraged. Feel free to have characters ignore the point, talk about other things, etc etc. Threads are assumed to be public unless you mark them otherwise. This is set after the Ambush of TTHS but the Investigation is still ongoing. )))

But are there invisible baseballs? Or maybe just like a laser or a potion that makes things invisible?

[ This guy looks like he would know for some reason. ]

Super heroes need invisible stuff all the time, right?!
headinjuries: i pet it. like i was pocahontas. (i made friends with a raccoon.)

I think you might be lowballing it.

[personal profile] justicecoulduseanap 2016-09-21 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but far, far away from me.

Well, it's kind of like when Chernobyl blew, and all the guys cleaning up thought it was safe because the geiger counters didn't actually go high enough for them to measure the radiation.

[There's no meter that goes high enough to measure Mabel's excitability accurately.]

Fortunately, her enthusiasm leaves way more survivors. Usually.

Well, the threshold hub means we can pretty much go anywhere, so it's super easy to find a planet that sounds cool and head down for the day.

Also, the TV here is really weird. Like they have shows where you can vote for the ending, and some of the sports are really off the wall, and the news looks more like a talk show?

And sometimes I just head out the airlock and go for a flight, it's kind of a nice way to get away from people.

[ A moment or two later, she hops back onto view sans bubble. She's trying to free her leg as it's now caught in one of the kitchen chairs. ]

Isn't it the best power?! I can roll around in the ball forever, but Dipper doesn't like it when I use it inside.

[ She might just roll her eyes a little as she mentions it. ]
headinjuries: this is not even the first time i've woken up in a shopping cart with a concussion. (the saddest part is)

[personal profile] headinjuries 2016-09-21 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
Comparisons usually work better when they're something the other person's actually heard about, dude.

[ He is slightly distracted pondering the amount of radiation that must've been now. And how he's probably flown through worse. Too bad the cleanup crew wasn't made of Novas. ]

You'd be right but usually not baseballs. The last time aliens challenged Earth to a baseball game for the fate of the planet we were stupid enough to hand it over to the Mets, and well...

Now we just punch the aliens. Way easier to win.

[She absolutely won't get the joke but he's not giving up an opportunity to mock the Mets. Ever.]

Usually we need invisible jets, invisible spaceships, sometimes invisible uniforms for invisible people so the clothes go invisible the same time they do.

Wait wait wait. HOLD THE PHONE.

[ She picks up the omnicom and laughs at her own joke before getting back to the matter at hand. ]

Can anyone just go space flying?

You don't know what Chernobyl is. Seriously?

[Come on, Sam.]
headinjuries: a fart during an awkward silence between 2 strangers doesnt make it less awkward. (life lesson #1:)

[personal profile] headinjuries 2016-09-21 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
No, I mean the rest of it! The counters not going high enough and stuff.
headinjuries: but i decided to go as a homewrecker. (the party tonight has no theme)

[personal profile] headinjuries 2016-09-21 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
With the stuff they give us, yeah - the flight rings get you around, the transuits handle the life support part.

...When Chernobyl blew there were guys that cleaned it up but they didn't realize how high the radiation was because the geiger counters didn't measure high enough.

I thought it was pretty self-explanatory.

[ Yep. She doesn't even get it a little. But she's learned from her summer with Gruncle Stan to smile and nod for approval. ]

But it is possible...

[ Because now she has plans for Dipper's shoes. ]
headinjuries: (in theory it seemed like it would work.)

[personal profile] headinjuries 2016-09-21 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
What's a geiger, though.

We should so do that! You and me! Together!

[ Blink.

Blink blink. ]

You know, I really shouldn't be surprised, since I've seen it happen to other people already, but it is...definitely a little weird.

[ Well, okay, so they met old-him on that time hopping detour, but that wasn't quite the same. He could see himself growing up into that, whereas this Casey... ]

Have you flown in zero-g yet? It's not too bad to get the hang of, but it's been a while since I learned so I might be forgetting something.

[personal profile] captainbuzzkill 2016-09-21 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously? Aren't you, like, in high school?

[Sam, get your life together.]

[Or Dipper can stop doing that thing he does where he shows off that he knows a thing, look he knows the thing, do you know the thing? No, you don't know the thing, but he knows the thing.]

[ What would be the worst to put your foot in? The baseballs were a good idea, but there's definitely got to be something better. ]

Spaghetti!
headinjuries: (in theory it seemed like it would work.)

[personal profile] headinjuries 2016-09-21 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I mean.

When I'm not suspended.

[Rich has a sibling so he immediately keens onto what she's thinking.]

Nah, if you're thinking stuff to put in your brother's shoes? Not spaghetti. Peanut butter. Invisible peanut butter. It's sticky, it's oily and hard to wash off, so it's perfect. But if you try doing it when it's not invisible, the person sees it.

Believe me, I've tried it.

[Robbie had been annoying sometimes with that smart brain of his. Occasionally.]

No, but my power is a giant hamster ball, and when it rolls fast you get stuck to the side and it's like extra g's. I'm pretty sure that's like astronaut training, so it'll be fine!
