[ Hey guys, you like disgruntled teenagers? Because here's one right now! Sitting in the med-bay, wearing a hospital gown, and looking equal parts frustrated and confused. ]

So uh.

I feel like I've done this before.

[ A pause, as he glances to the side in thought. Before finally: ]

Am I stuck in a time loop? Because if I am, and no one else has caught it yet, I'm calling supervillain shenanigans.

[ Okay. He got most of his rambling out of his system. He's cool now. Calm. Collected. Just... ask a simple question. Pretend you're talking to a normal person. ]

So um... where are you... from?

[ He's really good at this. ]

Palaven. [There's a beat before he realizes that probably requires a little more explanation.] It's the turian homeworld. Lots of steppes, tropical climate ...

Oh. Cool.

[ Gently pulls up conversation wheel. ]

... What's it like?

It's ... [He trails off, gesturing vaguely. He's not sure what you're looking for here, Danny.] ... nice?

It's warm, but not uncomfortably so - for turians, at least. Compared to a lot of other habitable planets, Palaven has a pretty weak magnetic field. Pretty much everything that evolved on Palaven is equipped to deal with that, but almost anyone else is going to need an environment suit if they want to spend a decent amount of time on the surface.

[ Okay no, he's actually paying real attention now. Because even if he's bad at school, there is one topic he's marginally interested in, and that's science. ]

Wait, so like... is your planet lighter than Earth? Like, low gravity and all that?

No. Different core make-up. Gravity's a little heavier than Earth, actually.

But wouldn't that mean the magnetic field is stronger then?

[ Look, he's trying. The gears in his head are turning. ]

... You know, this is probably why I'm a C student right here.

Not necessarily. Core composition and rotation speed has more to do with it than mass.

That's the theory anyway. Not really my field.

... Think I could go there sometime?

Provided you can find a way to hop between universes, I don't see why not.

If we can have a ghost portal in the basement, we can probably have a space portal too. Or something.

... It's probably kind of the same, right?

[His mandibles tap against his jaw. For the first time in this whole interaction, Garrus's face is probably an open book to Danny. He's confused.]

Ghost portal?

[ Oh. Oh god no. Why did he say that. This was going okay, why did he mention ghosts? ]

Oh, um... I... have a ghost portal. In my basement. Back home.

You mentioned.

[Not that re-stating the fact really cleared that up. Garrus just shakes his head.]

Sorry. I'm still not completely used to the fact that ghosts actually exist in some places.

[There's some small part of his brain that just can't completely wrap around it. He's still looking for a more rational explanation despite being backhanded by a giant green man that claimed to be the Wrath of God.]

[ Well, he didn't exactly go into this wanting to talk about his ghost weirdness. But since it already got brought up, and Garrus was sharing a bunch of stuff with him, it was only fair... right? ]

Um... back home, I'm uh. I'm from a town that's pretty much haunted.

Like, ghosts flying around every other day and stuff.

... And my parents are scientists, who study ghosts, and made a portal to their dimension in our basement.

[Garrus just nods. Makes about as much sense as anything else around here.]

Seems like an accident waiting to happen, but alright.

I take it there's a story there?

[ GOD DAMN IT ]

Um, so... the haunting, kind of... started... with our portal. Kind of.

I mean, it got worse from there, to the point where even turning it off does nothing, but.

Your parents aren't big on safety measures, are they?

[Just a wild guess, here ...]

[ Yeah he has no idea how to defend that. ]

Not that I'm really in any position to judge anyone on that front, of course.

[He tilts his head slightly, showing off the weathered patch of scar and burn tissue that covers about half of the right side of his face.]

[ God, Danny didn't even notice that. How did he not notice that? ]

Anti-personnel rocket got just a little bit too close. [Said casually. Like that was just a thing that happened.] I'd spent a few months making life hard for a bunch of mercenary outfits, and eventually they got tired of my crap.

[ Oh my god.

Garrus is an action movie star. ]

Anti-personnel rocket. [ A beat. ] As in, a literal anti person rocket. A rocket that is designed to make a person go away.

... You took that to the face.
