[Hiro turns on the omnicom partially by accident, as he's not quite done with his cursory look-over of new technology. But he is aware that he's turned it on.]

So...I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that's found themselves in a place they definitely didn't set their head down to sleep in. Officer Erin seemed like she's done the spiel before, which probably isn't a bad thing.

[He finally turns the camera to his face showing a young half-Asian with a tooth-gap still at medical.] Not quite sure I'm buying into the whole powers thing yet. Nothing's managed to manifest yet, then again it's been... [He glances at a nearby clock.] About three hours. I mean, what kind of thing should I be looking out for?

[Yeah, he's geeking out.] I'm not going to be shooting lasers out of my eyes or suddenly turning invisible, am I? I mean, not that either of those are bad powers to be had, I'm just...not used to having them? [He scratches at his cheek.] My team and I kind of just fought with our wits and the equipment I made. Speaking of...is there a lab or something around here that I could do some inventing in? Might help me adjust quicker.

Oh, my name is Hiro by the way. Hiro Hamada. [He does a little wave and then turns the feed off.]

The Medbay staff have likely already run scans on you that can help determine what your powers are.

As for a lab, I can partition off a personal workspace for you in the Science Labs. It's getting more...crowded than I would like, but far be it from me to deny any of the more technologically-inclined among you from having your own labspace when not having my mine would likely drive me to drink.

[He thinks he's being very gracious here in sharing his labs. His labs. Hiissssss.]

[Okay. The green skin takes him a moment to adjust to. Only a moment because he's still in the thought pattern that it's just make-up or an outfit. Like Fred's suit.]

Oh? [He perks.] So they should be coming back with the information at any time, right? Unless it's something that's potentially too dangerous for a "kid like me" to handle...?

[He promises not to blow anything up...? At least after the first week.] I'm fine with working in a small space, I worked out of our garage at home. Though I did get access to the college's labs. But thanks. [Wee smile.]

Regardless of your age, they'll inform you of your capabilities. It would be unwise to keep them from you.

And I'm not aware of your age, but the Galactic age of Adulthood in the United Planets is fourteen.

[Congrats, Hiro, you're officially grown up.]

Good, last thing I need right now is to somehow solder my foot to something with my hand. [He looks up briefly to see if a nurse is coming with the information.]

Lucky then for me I am fourteen. I graduated last year from high school at home, and I just started my college classes before all...this. [WHOO!]

Then you are, for all intents and purposes, considered a legal adult by UP law. That means you have the right to volunteer with the team or any other governmental bodies that require legal adulthood as a prerequisite, such as the Science Police.

Or barring such an agreement, you're of legal age to own or rent property and take up residence on any UP world without need of a legal guardian.

[Suspicious squinty eye is a go.] ...You're not playing a joke on me about that, are you?

[SO WHAT YOU'RE SAYING IS HE CAN DRINK. RIGHT? Or. In more reasonable words flee the care of his brother if necessary?]

No. I'm not. Many of us native Legionnaires started on the team when we were fourteen or fifteen-years-old.

[Yes he can drink. And yes he can lawfully flee.]

The powers are real! The powers are so real.

[Dipper holds out his omnicom a little distance away from himself so he can show off and an aura of blue light wraps around him. He visibly floats off the ground.]

I deeeefinitely couldn't do this back home.

Think I would've noticed that. Being able to blow things up with my brain.

[Squinty suspicious look. But he's glad to see someone as young as him in this place.]

It does seem like something hard to miss. I mean, unless you weren't all that angry at the time or something? [It does seem like a handy power in its own way.] Does it always relate to something from our homes?

Mine doesn't seem related to anything from home. If I had a power related to home, it'd probably be summoning zombies or monsters or something like that. Or magically interpreting cryptograms.

Basically, it'd have to do with mysteries or be a lot more horrible. So I think sometimes it can be random.

[Dipper settled back on the ground again and the blue light faded.]

I'm Dipper, by the way. Dipper Pines.

Wait wait wait, zombies and monsters? What kind of things go on at your home? [Because that sounds a little drastic.]

What kinds of things have people had so far? Just so I can get some kind of clue as to what I might be dealing with here?

[Nods.] Been here long, Dipper?

Well, home is Piedmont California, and nothing really happens there. It's the kind of place where yuppie parents talk to each other about, I don't know, artisanal pickles or whatever.

[That's the first thing that pops into his head that the grown ups talk about. Organic something or other, artisanal whatevers. His parents aren't as into that stuff but other kids' parents seem to be.]

But where I came from was Gravity Falls, Oregon, where my sister and I were visiting our Grunkle Stan, and that's the the weirdness capitol of the world. We were on our way home on the bus when I was pulled here and I've been here about a month now?

As for powers, some people have energy blasts, superspeed, energy constructs, metallokinesis... there's been a wide variety of powers so far. I've been charting them out to see if there's anything of statistical note but I haven't really found anything interesting yet.

[Sweet, another Californian. ......Wait, that city's just a few minutes away from home.] Well, I can't say I ever remembering things happening in Piedmont. Then again things were kind of hectic in San Fransokyo. [Hiro scratches at his cheek.]

Can't say I've heard of Gravity Falls, though. Sorry. Why'd your parents send you to Gravity Falls if it's got all that weird? Like what kind of weird are we talking about, Dipper?

I gotta admit, I'm kinda interested in the possibilities. Can I see this chart? [Perked the nerd side just a little.]

Oh, they didn't know about the weird. They thought they were just sending us to visit our Grunkle Stan for a normal summer in the normal Oregon wilderness.

What's San Fransokyo? That is...not a city. That exists.

[He knows his geography. Because he is a nerd. That knows geography.]

[Another camera flips on. The face on this end looks surprised, though probably not as surprised as Hiro is about to be.]

Hiro?!

[Tadashi hadn't thought he was ever going to see his stupid genius baby brother again. And now he's here.]

You're here! You're here, you're -- stay right there I am on my way!

[There's definitely some kind of lab here, but it's a little out of focus because Tadashi is booking it out of there right now.]

[Hiro stops. All motion, all thought, all breath. There's a painful tightening in his chest, and it takes a moment for everything to start again.

And even then Hiro's voice breaks when he speaks, emotion threatening to overwhelm him from every angle.]

Ta-Tadashi...? [He shifts the camera away from his face to hide any tears.] Wh-why are you here? How?!

[Well, doesn't that just tell Tadashi everything he needed to know about when Hiro's from back home?]

Sorry!

[This was not directed at Hiro so much as the person Tadashi just almost ran down in the hallway because he is running faster now.]

Yeah, it's me. I promise, it's me.

[Oh, yeah, he has a flight ring. Maybe he should use that instead of making people dodge him as he pelts through the halls.]

Same why and how as you are, buddy. Don't know yet, and don't know yet.

I'm sorry.

[Hiro wipes his eyes with his sleeve, sniffing briefly as he tries to get his emotions under control.]

N-no... You don't und-- [He shakes his head.

He won't ruin this reunion by telling Tadashi that he's dead. He's just going to get his brother back.]

I can come to you.

[ Aren't you a little ~~short for a Stormtrooper~~ young to be in a place like this? Videl has seen a disconcerting number of kids around the Legion World and is starting to question the wisdom of allowing people as young as 14 to enlist. ]

[ So she stares at Hiro with an unimpressed look, as though she has already examined him from head to toe and found him lacking. ]

Try getting someone to hit you. Your powers might be reactive.

{Well. Definitely shorter than a typical Stormtrooper but Hiro doesn't really plan on becoming one of those. And besides, isn't that kind of hypocritical in a way? Videl was fighting since she was a wee thing, wasn't she?

And yeah, he lacks a lot of the physical stature or strength but he's just hit puberty - give him some time.]

Some how I think I'm gonna have a hard time convincing the hospital staff to hit me.

[ Hypocrisy, thy name is Videl. Besides, participating in a regulated sport is a little different from the life or death situations one encounters in an intergalactic peacekeeping organization. ]

[ She may pass judgment over Hiro's stature, but she's not much bigger than him, if at all. Since this kid doesn't have the bulk, she sure hopes he's got something else. ]

When you're discharged from the medbay, then. [ She waves off this small oversight with one hand. ] I only recently figured out my power that way.

[ What Videl doesn't know is that she actually has two powers and won't discover the second until she takes her own advice. ]

[Question is, does she realize it? That's half the battle! But yeah, it's doubtful Hiro's parents planned for him to be running off being a hero at home. Let alone this kind of scenario!

Brains he's got for sure! But Videl can always drag his scrawny butt to the gym and get some meat on him.]

I think I'm free to go more or less, I just don't know of anywhere to go. [He scratches at his cheek.] My brother is running here right now, maybe I can get him to punch me.

[Sneaky~]

[ If she knew about his hero-ing back home, she might have to rethink her initial assessment. Videl isn't above admitting that she's wrong, no matter how much she doesn't like it. ]

[ A trip to the gym might help the kid a lot. He can be toned and scrawny instead o just regular scrawny. ]

You're pretty lucky, having family here. [ She remarks sincerely. ] If you didn't already get the whole spiel about all the amenities here, I'm sure your brother can explain it. [ She chuckles. ] If you were my brother, I'd punch you just for getting yourself into this mess.

[It's probably a topic he'd talk about himself to be honest at some point? Then she can quiz him about all the things he's doing, make sure he's doing right.

Toned and scrawny works! Eventually he'll be able to hold Tadashi up when "gravity gets too heavy" again.]

They probably went over it, to be honest. [Waving a hand towards the staff.] But if I was listening at the moment I'm not sure, this is...a lot to take in at once.

[He laughs.] Believe me, I'd be getting into different messes at home. Tadashi never had a moment's rest... [A nostalgic grin hinting toward sad.] My friends and I make sure to clean up most messes these days.

[ The use of past tense doesn't pass Videl's notice, but she doesn't call attention to it. ] Well, the mess everybody's in here could use all the help it can get.

[ She offers a noncommittal shrug. ] Maybe that's why people keep getting pulled through the extra-dimensional whatsit. [ She dismissively waves off her highly technical language with one hand. ] I guess if it has to pick kids, it's picking kids with experience.

Life just keeps getting weirder once you get superpowers. Then it gets to the point where you stop having to think about buying into it, because sure, can't be any worse than the rest of it.

It was weird enough just being a regular kind of hero. [Even if they didn't originally sign up for the long haul of it.] ...what do you mean the "rest of it?"

I haven't really been here long enough to start keeping track? But back home, uh. Pretty much everything that happened after the superpowers. I met a god, and a psychic Russian dog, saw a room full of other superheroes get shrunk down so the bad guys could stuff them into an ant farm...

[ ...well, okay, they probably found something better than an ant farm, but Sam didn't stick around to find out. ]

...So I can expect more than just what you'd see in a typical superhero movie. Got it. [His face only says somewhat though.]

How is it that they prepare for anything in this place then? [Of course it's a rhetoric questions.] Then again they've probably been through a lot more than I could imagine. This is like one of Fred's comics. [Hiro runs a hand through his hair.]

So how long have you been here?

Not long, actually. I got here right as everyone was getting back from the last mission.

Space here seems to be about the same levels of weird as space back home, though. Better governed, but just as weird.

Not yet? I mean, I wouldn't even really know how to go about it. Powers aren't normal in my home, technology is.

You've probably already been told this, but the powers vary from person to person. I think the medical staff can scan you if you ask them, but otherwise there's a bunch of places to train in, like the gym, or the biodomes in the Habitat Deck.

[ The age thing doesn't even bother Gohan. I mean, if there's anyone who's seen combat way too early in their life, it's Gohan. ]

Oh uh, my name's Gohan, by the way. It's nice to meet you, Hiro.

Yeah, gotten lots of advice from everyone here so far about it. [Hiro rubs at his face, grinning a little ruefully.] There space to play a little bit of soccer in these biodomes and gyms?

[He nods.] Nice to meet you, Gohan. I think. I'm not sure about this place still.

Oh, you can have the biodomes look like anything you want! There's only so much room in there, so you'll have to take that into account, but I made mine look like the plains back home. It's worked out pretty well so far!

[ He chuckles a bit at the last statement. ] Yeah, I... imagine it's kind of difficult to get used to. But it's not that bad, really.
