[ Grif is in one of Legion World's lounges. There's a space future pool table behind him, set up for a game. ]

Hey Legion, how's it going?

[ Wait. No. He holds up a hand. ]

Rhetorical question, don't answer that, it's not what I'm here for. What I'm here to talk to you about today is superpowers.

[ He's found his stride, and taken an almost public-service-announcement tone. ]

Do you have strange new abilities since coming to space? Were you just extra cool before the rest of us and nothing changed? Cause I definitely want to know what you guys got in the Time Trapper lottery and please make it look as awesome as possible.

[ He grins a little. Superpowers are the best. ]

For those of you who are new, which is most of who I'm talking to here? I'm Grif. Doubletime if you want to go all codename on me but... Grif. Really. Sometimes I look like this:

[ He scoops a space-age looking helmet painted bright orange off the floor, presumably, then drops it again with a thunk. It's armor, he's not gonna break it, right? ]

And me? I got this.

[ Grif disappears in an orange blur and suddenly, the pool table clears itself in a flurry of indistinct motion. He comes back down from super speed and casually leans the cue against it. ~~If anyone bothers to slow that down, it was an absolutely disgraceful display and he cheated at least six times.~~ Grif is super smug. ]

So yeah. I kind of got the best power already? Sorry.

[ Oh right, there was something else he wanted. ]

And everybody else? Uh. Anything new that's cool? ...Or just tell me how the last mission went for you. I got to go into the past and wrestle Batman and stuff. He's kind of a dick, honestly.

[ There was a small pause before Raynor said anything, a pause in which he wasn't sure what to make of her. He knew this place was all about superheroes and such, but this woman right here? She couldn't have screamed 'mercenary' any harder if she tried. It was almost eerie, how easily he could see her as a Ghost operative. But now wasn't the time for suspicions, especially when everyone was being friendly. ]

I reckon that must be some tactical advantage there. What do you fight with, ma'am?

[Such suspicions were duly warranted as he would soon learn.]

Rifle. Long range specialty. [She glanced up to take in the man's face. Ah, someone she hadn't seen before.] I am a sniper.

[ Yep. There it was. At least she was honest about it, which he could completely appreciate. ]

Can't say I have much experience with sniper rifles. I'm more of a handgun or gauss rifle man myself.

A coilgun. I cannot say I have ever seen one in action with my own eyes. [She had seen a lot, but that was one she couldn't recall.] I am also highly skilled with an assault rifle and trained in other firearms.

We just call them Impalers. Standard issue marine weaponry, where I'm from. Spent so many years using one, I could probably put one together in my sleep if I had the tools. [ Or some kind of superpower that allowed him to create constructs. You know, whatever. ]

Name's Raynor, by the way. Jim Raynor. Pleasure to meet you, ma'am.

Mm. Military. [It was hard to tell if that meant anything to her given the lack of emotion in her voice. She continued to work on her nails, committing that name to memory.]

I believe such ability is common with anyone who is married to their weapon. Do you have one here?

Unfortunately, no. I was in a bit of a... rough spot, when I got brought here. [ Prisons don't generally let you keep your weapons. ]

Suffice it to say, I'm gonna have to make due with a suitable replacement.

A shame. I was looking forward to seeing it in action. Perhaps it is for the best; they do not like lethal guns here. Refitting that for Legion use would be more trouble than it was worth.

Oh, I don't know about that. Slow down the ferromagnetic acceleration some, change the ammunition for some non-lethal metallic rounds, and you could have yourself a pretty effective non-lethal Impaler.

[She paused, eyes moving back up to the feed, as she turned that all over in her mind. Sure, it could be done, but again - more trouble than it was worth. And it would change more about the weapon than she cared because...]

It would just be sad to do something like that to such a magnificent weapon.

I suppose that's fair. The Impaler works best when you shoot to kill, after all. [ A pause, as he grabs a cigarette. ] But that's not what these fine folks are about. And I can respect them sticking to their guns about this.

It is an annoying, if necessary, inconvenience.

[Another glance up. Widowmaker wondered if the judge was going to come by and get on Raynor for smoking. It seemed like something she would do since clearly the judge has nothing better to do than be a perpetual pain in the ass.]

[ Look, Raynor's pretty accommodating, but he's keeping the damn cigarette pack. He has his vices and by god he will keep them. ]

Tell me, have you thought about carrying different ammo? We're in the far future, after all. I reckon there's gotta be more than just your standard lethal and non-lethal ammo around here.

I typically equip with stun rounds on missions here. I always carry lethal with me - they have more punch than the stun. I have been looking into other options, but I am concerned about the potential wear and tear on my rifle.

I am rather protective of Widow's Kiss.

Sounds to me like you need a practice rifle, to rest the different ammunition.

You will find rifles - or any hard projectile guns - are not common here. Such artful weapons are lost on this century. [She gave a slight sigh.]

It would not matter anyway. My rifle is unique. I must narrow options down with theory first.

[ He may not have been as... attached to his weapons like she was, but he did at least understand being careful. Weapons were sort of like cars to him. The state of the car wasn't as important as his familiarity with it. ]

I did notice that. Most of what I've seen around here involves a lot of energy weaponry, which I'm only partially familiar with. [ By way of the Protoss. ]

How about this. Work some theories out, see what you think could work... and when you've got something, come talk to me. I'll see about helping you apply that theory to practice, and then we can go from there.

[ After all, he was very much interested in venue. Why not work together? ]

Oh? [She raised her eyebrows.] And to what do I owe this generous offer?

[He wasn't even Legion. People didn't offer to do things for her out of the kindness of their heart.]

It's something I'm interested in myself.

I can create timed psychic constructs, so if you can come up with some theories, I can create them for you and see how they work in practice. If they work, I'd like to try some of them myself. After all, if we're walking around with a bunch of antiques... might as well surprise people with something new.

Timed. [That was the keyword there.] As good as it would be to have a variety of ammunition, it does me no good if it does not exist when it is needed.

It seems there is very little in this for me, unless you think your company is worth it.

I am told I can be pretty charming, when I'm not a hard ass.

[ That was mostly a joke. Mostly. ]

Although I reckon you can see the benefit of being able to apply theory to practice without having to spend a dime. Especially if it lets you flesh out the design before you commit actual resources to it.

Perhaps. [Whether that was in regards to Raynor's charm or the conservation of resources was purposefully left ambiguous.] I will consider it.

[She made a noncommittal sound, opening a bottle of purple nail polish to begin painting the nails on one hand.]

Why have you chosen not to join the Legion?

I'm not big on joining organizations that I haven't seen in action first-hand. But I'm slowly coming around, don't you worry.
