Hey guys. There are a bunch of weirdos running around and it's been a while since we talked about powers. So guess what we're going to do today?

[ 'We' because he expects participation, dammit! ]

And because I'm feeling generous, I'll start. Guess who learned a new thing?

[ He points at himself with both thumbs and backs up, revealing a line of targets. He steps back, lines up his shoulder with them, and winds up his arm like a softball pitcher. He doesn't stop. Grif's arm blurs as he speeds up, and finally the force of the moving air is enough to tip over the nearest target. But only the nearest one. He stops, gestures at it with definite pride, and continues. ]

So let's talk about your powers because we already know mine are pretty awesome.

[ Of course they are, Grif. ]

Has anybody else figured out anything cool? And if you're new: I'm Grif and this is basically my job around here. Tell me what you got, because I'm still way disappointed about the lack of eye lasers we got going on on this team. I could read profiles, but who has time for that crap?

If I know you already... I don't know. Injury status report? What did you have for lunch? I'm just bored, okay?

[She seems to have the greatest luck hitting people's buttons unintentionally lately, so she decided to clear the air a bit.]

In all honesty, right before coming here I spent most of the last seven years posing as a bounty hunter. The kind of people you had to cozy up to in those circles weren't exactly what you could consider sensitive in any way, and their sense of humor was fairly...uncouth.

I suppose I'm just not really used to conversing with people whose sensibilities could be considered "normal" anymore.

[She gives a half shrug.]

Well. As long as you don't mind vegan cake. Some of them aren't too terrible, but it's not really like anything back home.

That's possible. I more meant a list of people to call us for if they arrive. Like if Thrash or Angel showed up. [The only two of their group not here. And possibly never going to show up, though he'd love to see what the Legion's medics could do for Angel these days.]

The most advanced technology I've seen in my homeland is guns brought from the west. There's very little here that I'm used to.

[ Robbie was the only one who'd been waiting on that growth spurt for what felt like forever. He's probably still the shortest guy, but it's not by all that much anymore, and he's taller than Nita now.

But, yes, good. Talk to the cat, because that is always an improvement.

Extricating himself from Niels, Robbie holds the fluffball up and makes him wave at Nita, talking in a weird "kitty" voice. The effect is ruined by the cat licking himself. ]

Mrrow hi Ni-- damn it, Niels!

[ The correction makes the cat turn to liquid in his hands and streak off. There's the sound of a crash, and a wave of bubbles floats through the screen. Robbie just sighs and wafts them away. ]

So - uh. No one told me you were here.

[It might be Rich's first time, but Nita has dealt with this before. Namor, the Invaders, the Fantastic Four...what should be certain death has instead been an agonizing ellipsis for most of her life.

It's hard to tell whether she's crying or laughing at him. Probably a little of both. Pile on too much, too soon, and even Nita can't cope.]

Whatever. We'll sort it out later. Where are you?

[She sniffs and brushes away tears. Something to do, even as simple as "track down Rich," is better than sitting around thinking about metaphysics.]

Well, at least you're not alone in that. You're not the first person I've met with that problem.

But if you need any help, please feel free to ask. I'm not exactly an expert on technology, but I know enough to get by.

I think it may be better to hear some things from someone who isn't an expert. They're less likely to fall back on language that doesn't mean a thing to me.
