my universe's version of death made it to the cancerverse once, by hitching a ride on someone who was effectively an avatar of death.

the first thing she did was blow up captain marvel, the leader of the revengers, with a touch.

the reason the cancerverse even was what it was was because captain marvel and the revengers killed its version of death and then let the many-angled ones in.

That was fairly obvious. You've comported yourself more competently in the field than someone with no superheroing experience.

Ah, that would explain several perplexing anomalies that were encountered during your initial medical scans.

Thank you for apprising us. It's important for us to have accurate and specific information on power sets for mission deployments, and it's vital for us to know about any unique physiological states in the case of injuries.

[And that's it. There's his big reaction.]

I'm not sure what you're expecting, Danny, but this team has had its fair share of strange origin stories and encountered more than its fair share of strange phenomenon.

For instance, Umbra's darkfield powers are possessed by the dead spirits of past Shadow Champions.

And a lot of the missing Legionnaires, still trapped in the crystal dimension, have unusual origins. Ultra Boy got his powers from eating the flesh of a giant space whale he was trapped inside. Wildfire is an energy being made from the merged forms and souls of two heroes that died, reborn as a new person. Shikari is a wayfinder like all the other Kwai, and their abilities can't be pinned down as having any kind of organic root like some other metapowers can be. It may as well be magic.

Which is real in this universe too, as you've seen by now.

I wish you hadn't hid the nature of your powers because that was dangerous. If you'd been hurt, Medbay would've been able to treat you better if they knew you had a particularly unique physiology. But beyond that, there's nothing wrong or all that strange about it.

All that and you neglected to mention the spacetime anomaly that increased my intellect and changed my personality on a whim, Jazmin.

We live in a very peculiar universe, as I'm sure you've noticed, Daniel. I'll admit to being fascinated by the concept of someone's body being in state of flux between life and death but I'm fascinated by quite a few of the power sets and unique physiological states of members on the team.

We can keep it a secret Danny - but if it becomes mission-relevant and a teammate needs to know about it to keep you alive or needs to know it for the mission to be successful, I'm going to trust that you'll speak up. I can always talk to that teammate after and ask them to keep confidence.

And I am reporting it to Dr. Gym'll, in case you're ever hurt in a fight - that one, you're not wiggling out of. It might be something he needs to know to treat you in the future. But the medstaff has a strict policy of confidentiality with any personal health data.

As for everyone else, on a day to day basis, it's up to you who you want to tell.

That said, I really don't think anyone would make it a big deal. This team takes a lot of things in stride and has a lot of people that come from very unusual circumstances. I'm not sure why you feel the need to hide it, but if you ever do talk to people, I think they'd be more accepting than you think.

speaking as someone who's had to keep a secret id i kinda get it. it's almost instinct, covering your ass so your entire life doesn't fall apart.

speaking as someone who's had a brain full of nightmare squids and who only wound up that way because a veritable god had a messy breakup with my universe's version of death, there are much weirder things out there, danny.

i mean the whole reason i wound up in the cancerverse was because a guy with a nickname "the mad titan" couldn't handle "she's just not that into you" coming from a cosmic abstract.

life is strange. there's not many people on this team that'll get judgey over it. more likely they'll trade weirdness war stories.
