GAME OF THRONE [mod event]

[When Dipper comes on screen he's in the supernatural research room that's attached to the Labs, where various Legionnaires have holed up over time to study the Book of Magic. Ray and Valeria are in there with him, working on the book behind them.]

This is so exciting! Ohmygosh.

Okay, so for anyone that's new, a while ago we had to get the spear of Destiny - like that spear of Destiny, that poked Yahweh-know-who? - to re-imprison the Spectre. Because we were the ones that let him out in the first place to stop this giant planet-eating guy with a stupid hat called Galactus.

Anyway, that's all taken care of, the Spectre's back in his box, but when we went to find the spear we met this guy guarding it that called himself The Wizard - like the Wizard, like he was the most important one or something? - and alongside telling us where the spear was, he gave us this magic book. He promised that if we could unlock its knowledge we might be able to find something to use against Chronoblivion.

We did a lot of research and found out it was legit but it's all wrapped up in codes and spells and riddles. We managed to unlock it enough that Ray was able to use its power to banish Eclipso to the room with a moose dimension, a dimension that's just...a room with a moose. (I don't get it, either). In that fight on Apokolips.

[Dipper rolls his hands around each other to show he's trying to fast forward.]

Anyway, a bunch of us have been working on it for a while and it turns out Gohan decoded some important encryptions before he got zapped home and he never got to tell the rest of us! I was going through his old notes to see if we missed anything and we were able to use it to figure out how to unlock the last spells guarding it. We're unlocking the last of it right now!

Brainiac got help from Sorcerer's World to use those magic artifacts we got from that marriage planet and combined it with technology to shield the research room, so nobody has to worry about any eff --

[Something crackles behind him, where Valeria and Ray are working. Some of Ray's equipment starts making alarming ticking noises. Ray says, "Definitely a sharp uptick in PKE valences...we may want to duck."]

[Dipper turns, yelps, and ducks just in time to avoid magical energy that zaps through the room like lightning. A more subtle wave of magical energy sweeps past after the initial zaps, spreading out all through Legion World. Val, Ray, and Dipper are just fine but frogs start appearing and raining from the ceiling in their research room, and the book floats off the table, completely wrapped up in ethereal glowing golden chains. Other Legionnaires throughout Legion World might also find strange magical effects spreading out all over.]

Uhhh.

Whuh oh.

Oh my god the bunny's hot. [ Shit she'd never thought she'd hear herself say. ] What the hell.

[Congratulations, he laughed for about five minutes before responding.]

Oh, is that so? Good to know, Sheila, kind of you to say.

[Hey, it's been a very long time since he received any such compliment, but it isn't the first. Ego: boosted.

Wait, though.]

Sheila, mate, which is it? Hard to be sure under the circumstances.

Mate works for either gender, right? Thank god I have a unisex name, this shit would get ridiculous otherwise.

[ It is still pretty goddamn ridiculous but, hey, she's rolling with it. ]

No seriously you are a gigantic fuzzy rabbit that delivers candy to children and you've got a fucking eight pack. What the fuck.

[If this conversation is going to go into swear-filled details re: his 8 pack, he's not having it where just anybody on the Legion network of any age can see it. His response goes private.]

Sure, but if you've got a preference, I'm not gonna ignore it. 'Mate' it is, though.

I'm a master of survival and t'ai chi. Once I survived for three days in the Outback, chained to a rock, surrounded by dingoes. Dunno what an 8-pack is, but if that's something a human'd get from hundreds of years of crossing the world in a day, fighting everything that ever set its mind to doing harm to a kid, then I don't know how you're surprised I have one.

Anyway, I'd compliment you back, but I still couldn't tell ya what's attractive on a human. The shapeshifting didn't come with the itch.

[He shrugs. Thank goodness mortality alone didn't bring it back on either. The last thing he has time for is a distraction that hasn't been with him since he became the last of his kind. And it doesn't stop him from appreciating a compliment.]

[ Habit has him doubling down on the privacy, Delta slipping in to encrypt their conversation just in case. Paranoia is a thing. ]

It's- abs. Abs, bro, you have abs. Means high muscle definition and low body fat which- probably shouldn't surprise me because you're a gigantic rabbit and I don't think I've ever seen a fat bunny? Fluffy, yes, fat? No. Also- uh. The Easter Bunny...protects children? You're a global kid bodyguard? That's badass and not at all what I heard growing up.

[ But there's lean and then there's...if he were younger this is where he'd do something stupid territory. And he's not. He's older and less prone to some kinds of stupidity. ]

I've been told by someone equally unfamiliar with what's aesthetically pleasing to humans that eyes are both fascinating and informative- as well as lacking the usual connotations of, yanno, 'I'd like to hit that'.

What, I never introduced myself? I'm a Guardian. You mortals never do show us as we are, but no worries. Y'oughta guess who the other Guardians are - every time I tell an adult, they tell me to pull the other one.

Speaking of introductions, I never caught yours.

[He chuckles a bit, because he could tell tales about a few fat rabbits, if he were willing to speak that quickly about the dead. York's given him the avenue to actually look into those memories, though, because just about the only feature that pookas shared with humans were the eyes.]

Good point, good point, eyes are a good place to start.

[His have stayed the same bright spring green, well in focus as he brings the omnicom in for a closer look.]

Sight's about the only sense I'm not taking a loss on right now, too, so, right. Bring 'em in, let me see what I got to work with here.

Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. That's like, the childhood innocence trifecta right there, yeah?

[ There'd been a weird ripple, apparently, in kids after fucking aliens proved to be real. If aliens can be real, can be horrifyingly, viscerally real- why can't the things that brought life and joy and hope to kids also be real?

She'd heard a little about it while on the front. Never said a damn thing because people need something. And if it's a bunny that brings chocolate or an entering and breaking elderly toymaker? That's what it is. ]

Oh- I'm Locksmith. Formerly Agent New York of Project Freelancer- or just Taylor Murray. My ride along's Delta. [ She shrugs. Delta's holographic form flickers into being for a moment to wave before vanishing again. ] Even if I'm slightly softer around the edges now.

[ Without further prompting she brings up the omnicomm so Bunny (Hotbuns in her head right now because her brain is terrible on occasion) can get a better look. Clear, inquisitive, a steely blue that's all natural for the right- an a luminescent replica for the left, a whirring, biotic replacement. Behind both there's the odd flicker of green. Signs of Delta. ]

You left out the Sandman. He and Tooth were the first two.

[Okay, as little as he wants to add to Santa's reputation, he should be accurate.]

All right, Sandy, Tooth, and North became the first three Guardians all together, but Sandy and Tooth were putting their work in even before North started leaving gifts instead of taking them. And then we picked up Jack Frost just a tic ago.

[It was a couple years prior, but the years seem so short to him. It occurs to him he glossed over his own addition to the group, that he could have just said he and the others were the original four, but York has put him on a path of reminiscing.]

Ah, yeah, I've seen you around. Good to put a name to a pair of eyes. [He narrows his own, assessing, taking his time - maybe a little more than necessary, just to see how long York will put up with it.]

That's a good shade of color. Like the sky right before dawn changes it from blue, reflected in a lake on a still morning.

[Hey, he knows color! It's one of his things.]

Y'ever felt the kinda peace you can only get in a place like that?

...Huh. If I hadn't seen you running around as, well. You, kicking ass, taking names- wait is this going to get me on some fairy tale watchlist, swearing around a personification of childhood innocence?

[ All the reasons to end up in theoretical hell if she bites it a third damn time and, well. She'd kind of earn it like this if that's the case. ]

But yeah, if I hadn't seen that? I'd call you a liar. But. I have and it's....really nice, knowing there's a universe out there where y'all are real. [ Solid like equations and physics and the metal that makes up her armor. Comforting in a way that's distant but not detatched. ] Those kids are lucky.

[ The ones in her world less so, but- not something to talk about. Probably. She sits, quiet, patient, brow quirked and light dancing in her bionic eye as she waits for Bunny to finish his assessment. Patience is kind of required for handling Delta when he's puzzling something out so- this isn't new. ]

...Yeah- it's why I've got my habitat here set up the way I do. Not a lake but- a pond. My family back on earth, back home, had a cabin they'd rent with a lake and we'd go there when I was a kid. After everything...I wanted something like that. I don't always get it but- [ She wiggles a hand in a see-saw gesture. ] Sometimes I get close.

You think that's the worst language I've ever heard? With this accent?

[Either Australian English's legendary vulgarities have been lost to time, or York just believes he somehow missed out on them in hundreds of years of living.]

Might be bad enough for North's naughty list, but you seem a little old for Christmas miracles anyway. And I'm not a personification of anything.

[Plainly saying 'I was mortal once' would open up almost as many sad tales as would pointing out that one doesn't investigate crimes against children and retain any semblance of innocence - that's definitely not a topic for lighthearted, complimentary banter, and lighthearted complimentary banter is proving itself a nice way to occupy time under awkward circumstances.

Still - York's touched on his private thoughts that the kids from his Earth being lucky comes with the consequential thought that kids from the Earths where he's not are . . . less lucky. If he dwelt to long on that thought without hope of his own, it would break his heart.]

Your kids'll be lucky, too.

When we're done here - I'm not gonna forget your worlds're out there. We swore an oath to watch over the children of Earth, but I'm thinking the oath could use an update.

[It's not a light promise, the way he doesn't rattle it off quickly. The words come slow, carefully picked, because he'd like to apologize for not having been there for York's childhood, too. But what are the right words for that? For a myth to say to a mortal, 'I'm sorry I wasn't there for you - I didn't know you existed?']

Anyway. [Now there's a good word for getting to less sad subjects.] I'm glad you've got those memories. I'm glad you get to have it every now and again. Everyone who looks into your eyes gets a bit of that peace. It wouldn't be fair if you hadn't gotten to have some yourself.

[He lets the words have their moment to sink in, genuine with care, before breaking into a triumphant grin.]

There, how's that for a compliment, complimentary enough for ya?
