TOTAL ECLIPSO THE HEART [endgame] [modplot] [video]

[The fighting they've done on the planet has accomplished what it needed to. The garrison members that were getting massacred have been able to rally and fight back, bolstered by the Legionnaires and Eclipso has been defeated and permanently cast into the universe that's just a Room With A Moose, instead of being released to be yet another angry angel they have to deal with. Those who were converted into being evil have turned back to their true selves, now that Eclipso is gone, meaning the more dangerous garrison members and Science Police officers (like the Daxamites) are back on their side.]

[And most importantly of all, they've bought time for the engineering team.]

[When Brainy comes on the comms, he's working with other engineers in space, in orbit over Apokolips. They're working on a massive array that's meant to function as a combination boom tube/threshold gate.]

Kid Quantum, we're almost finished the array. Once we are, we can transport Apokolips to the dimensional pocket Valeria, myself, and Merl engineered. The connection the Herald has to the universe those creatures are coming from should be cut off, and we'll be able to block any more incoming boom tubes being used by the Catastrophists, while still being able to bring in more Science Police officers as backup ourselves.

[It'd turn the planet into a trap for their enemies. The monsters currently on the planet could be killed, the Catastrophists and Herald would have no way to leave, while they'd be able to keep funneling in more and more backup.]

Once we've cleared the planet of enemy combatants the dimensional fold should allow us to destroy Apokolips now without risk of it tearing open a hole in time and space like I'd feared. We just have to -

[The Legionnaires will all suddenly feel the ground shaking under them, as planet-sized machinery and engines of lamentation start to operate in Apokolips' under levels. While they won't be able to tell what's happening on the planet, up in orbit Brainy can see it. He looks down at Apokolips and his brows furrow in confusion.]

Somehow Apokolips is...rotating on its axis. They must have some way of controlling the planet's alignment. But why would they -

[He gasps as he sees what's now moving to align with the array, a massive hole pitted into Apokolips' surface.]

ALL ENGINEERING TEAMS, EMERGENCY EVAC NOW! They're lining up one of the fire pits with the array!

[He flies frantically towards the nearest engineering team, trying to extend his shields around them in time, in case they don't have time to reach the gate, hoping that it'll be enough.]

[CHAKOOM! There is a bright light that illuminates Brainy's face from below, as the Catastrophists finally manage to reignite the largest of Apokolips' fire pits. He reaches out his hands towards his engineers...and everything goes white. Brainy's comm crackles and goes out.]

[They can all see it on the planet, the pit reigniting sending a plume of superheated plasma into the atmosphere at a thousand miles per hour. It arcs through the array above in a massive explosion that sends debris raining down on Apokolips - raining down on them.]

[Now they have no chance of blocking the creatures, and more and more of them pour in through holes in spacetime, Now they have no chance of blocking the boomtubes, as Catastrophists keep pouring in to fight them.]

[Now they have no chance.]

[ooc: People can throw as many characters into this as they want. Characters that went on other missions can be handwaved as jumping in right before shit went down]

[Shepard's voice is sharp with tension and a bit of anger. It's always goddamn something, isn't it?]

Quantum! [she is not yelling "Kid Quantum" into a comm, okay] This one's a loss. How do you want to play it?

[She really wants to skip past the "Legionnaires arguing" section of the agenda to the "pitched battle" one.]

Nova Prime, this one's yours!

[Kid Q sounds shaken under her strong declaration, probably more than any of them have ever heard her. The Legion has gone up again steep odds, but it's not often that they actually lose. Still, there's a reason she's Legion Leader, and one of those reasons is that she knows how to take change and make use her people.]

Get our people out of there!

[personal profile] iamresponding 2017-10-06 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
[It's been a while since he's been in charge and he's liked not having to take responsibility for everything. Kid Q's a competent enough leader that most of her calls have been solid enough to just follow along with. Sure, she's a little young and rough around the edges but she knows how and when to lean on the more experienced people under her.]

[Maybe that's why he flipped out over Robbie and Vance's Legionnaire Legacy. Maybe not having to be in control of everything, all the time, meant he'd lost control of himself. Maybe all the freedom and free time meant something had just...shaken loose, because it had the time and room to do it. Even after talking it over with Dr. Ry'kerr after being practically dragged to see her, he still hasn't figured it out.]

[But of course his little vacation from responsibility wasn't going to last. Of course he'd have to evacuate more worlds. Of course he'd never stop running out of dead worlds overrun by monsters.]

[The resignation only causes him to pause for a few seconds. Novas gotta step up. This is his job, and he hopes against hope this is the only time he'll have to do this part of it while in the Legion's universe. He hopes it's the only planet they ever have to evac.]

Alright, listen up.

I'm putting a group on guarding the T-gates. If they get trashed, we're sunk.

We've also got monsters and Catastrophists hemming groups of the garrison in and cutting them off. For each cluster, I want at least two Legionnaires with offensive powers clearing a path to the T-gates, and two more with a mix of offensive and defensive powers guarding the rear. I'll contact garrison leaders to coordinate your efforts with any metapowered Scipos in each group.

Expect to switch off occasionally with the nearest cluster over, depending on what monsters you're running into. There's no reason for any of you to get bogged down if a teammate nearby can take that particular critter out in one hit.

I'll have the Daxamite and Braalian Scipos give us air support, especially over the T-gates, but watch out for that debris, they're not going to catch everything. If you see a big chunk falling over your area and don't have the power to stop it, call it out, and I'll redirect someone nearby.

[It's going to keep falling as more and more of it gets captured by Apokolips' gravity.]

Also call out if you see the Herald wading in, and if you're underpowered, try not to engage. I'll send a heavy hitter to cover you.

[The Legionnaires all start receiving orders on their comms that assign them to their roles and give them a location to go to help a cluster evacuate.]

Starting assignments. I'll give adjustments as we go.

[He's got a feeling this fight's going to evolve. It's already pure chaos. But they can evolve with it.]

This is the superhero equivalent of dine and dash. We're not fighting to win. [Except with a whole lot more punching.] But whenever you have the chance, hit 'em hard.

[His voice goes a little wry.]

Maybe they've won this one but we've still got just enough time to make 'em regret it.

[ooc: Play out whatever you want actionspam-wise, with whoever you want, and you can assume they got orders to do it.]

Are we still operating under the normal RoE?

[Read: is that annoying no-kill order still in effect? Her tone says she sure hopes not.]

Kill the monsters at will, they don't seem sentient. With the Catastrophists, incapacitate if you can, if you can't, the lives of you, your teammates, and the Scipos come first.

[The exception to the no-killing rule is pretty much made for times like this.]

Acknowledged.

[She'll try, but she's not gonna be able to bring herself to be too concerned about overkill on this one. Sorry, Legion.]

I will help guard the rear.

I'll pair you with someone that can cover you if anyone needs healing.

[It's almost like watching a healer's back should be a priority in a fight or something.]

Judge Dredd responding. On my way to the nearest cluster.

[Despite his composure, his voice sounds completely wrecked. And he's more than a little pissed that he's no longer his ultimate power fantasy. There's the sound of running feet on gravel, a strangled yell, then the snap of something that sounds like bone. After a second, his voice comes back in, vaguely annoyed.]

I'm also almost out of high-ex ammo, so if somebody could come over and blow apart the drokking sheets of metal falling from the sky on me, that would be just peachy.

Shepard--ah, Sentinel here. [She's bad at code names, but then again, so is he.] I can cover you. Stand by.

[Her footsteps pick up, boots on concrete and metal, and there's some muttered grumbling audible about how much she hates omnicomms as she simultaneously runs and fiddles with hers to get a bearing on Rico. Her ultimate power fantasy involved getting all her cool gear from home back, and its renewed absence annoys her disproportionately.]

Coming in high. Don't shoot me.

[The footfalls stop, because she's jumped off a cliff. A moment later, a figure in maroon and charcoal gray lands near Rico in a puff of dust.

Yeah, Shepard is exhausted, running on instinct and stubbornness, and has totally forgotten she has a flight ring. Oops.]

[Rico just steps back, giving her a glanced once-over.]

You could've broken your neck, making a jump like that.

[Is that an admonishment to be more careful? A threat? A joke? Who knows with Rico. Either way, perhaps it's in poor taste considering he's standing next to a dead Catastrophist with two broken bones and his head twisted the wrong way around. He turns in the direction of the nearest garrison, opening his mouth to talk -]

[And a massive, twisted hunk of smoldering metal impacts the ground about twenty meters from them, shaking the earth.]

[action!]

[personal profile] thebioticwoman 2017-10-06 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Shepard rises from her crouch, dusting off her hands.]

Not likely.

[She'll follow orders and try to minimize deaths, but she sure as hell isn't going to disagree with Rico's apparent belief that the Catastrophists need killin', and she spares the corpse no more than a glance to make sure it's not about to get up and attack them again. It's a problem where she's from.

Then more metal falls out of the sky, and Shepard only spares that an annoyed glance, too.]

Time to get moving.

[Her eyes start to glow blue-white as she gets ready to use her biotics.]

Stick close. My barrier's effective radius is only a couple meters.

[Rico makes a noise of acknowledgement in the back of his throat, gravitates closer to Shepard's side and braces himself to run. He shares her disdainful attitude towards the debris raining from the sky, but being squashed like a bug would be a frankly ignominious way to go out.]

You got that right. [he rumbles.] Let's go!

I see her.

[He takes out the lawrod on his back, perched from his position relatively high up in a structure to avoid the falling debris, and looks down the scope. His helmet calculates the distance and his bearing, and he briskly extrapolates her exact co-ordinates. His work with numbers is undoubtedly impeccable, at least.]

The Herald's in visual range. Four hundred and thirty point two five meters, co-ordinates -

[He starts to rattle them off, but suddenly pauses.]

...She sees me.
