Total Eclipso The Heart [modplot/network]

[cw: Suicide. The Catastrophists are very self-destructive.]

[Moving Apokolips isn't easy but one thing's for sure - it must be done. Its current location is heavily guarded, yes, but known to the Catastrophists. The only way to guarantee they won't try to reignite it again is to make it so it can no longer be found, but that entails moving an entire planet. Even more difficult: moving one that's massive compared to other worlds. Apokolips is enormous, and the New Gods had been the size of giants, only rendered as small as normal humanoids by their boom tubes when visiting the rest of the galaxy. For the UP and Legion to work on Apokolips, Brainy had to modify the threshold gates to work with boom tube technology so anyone passing through is adjusted to the right size.]

[Fortunately, he's no longer the only Brainiac working on problems like these. Computo left him with some useful information about mother box technology before wandering off to travel through the galaxy in an attempt to find leads on ways the Legion can fight Chronoblivion. And Brainiac 6's naturally intuitive understanding of dimensional harmonics has helped Brainy figure out how to make a threshold gate system large enough to not only move the planet somewhere more hidden but also to permanently render it a size more fitting for the humanoids guarding it.]

[So everything seems to be going okay. The team has been told to be ready to be deployed, in case anything goes wrong, but so far - for once - something seems to be happening without it exploding into a crisis.]

[When Brainy shows up on the comms to report in on their progress, he's on the planet and engineering teams behind him can be seen working on components that will be T-gated into orbit and fitted together into a very large, specialized threshold gate in space. Even without Apokolips being active, the backdrop he's reporting from is eerie. The place looks the way one might imagine hell if all its fires were extinguished.]

Progress on the relocation of Apokolips is proceeding apace. The different engineering teams each only have the information they need to perform their specific task in the construction, so knowledge of where the planet is being relocated to is still secure. The joint Legion and Science Police garrison on the planet is also reporting no suspicious activity. Provided that there are no unexpected...impediments, construction should be finished within the hour, and the relocation process itself should only take a half hour.

I am deeply in favor of minimal unexpectedness and minimal impediments.

Keep up the good work, Brainy. Let us know if there's anything we can do for you from here.

If you can find any of the engineers, try to get them out of there! We'll be there soon!

[She has the same inverted coloring as the other Heralds, toxic and photo-negative. The inverted colors mean that her dark cloak must normally be white, and the bright white hems of her cloak must normally be dark. Why the hems are dark becomes evident as she walks. The bright white oozes off of her cloak and drips on the ground and once it leaves her body, the inverted color scheme stops and its left behind in a bright red trail.]

[Plip plop. A constant spatter of blood that seeps from nowhere and from everywhere at once. It's more like an idea of blood, just like the creatures that have appeared on Apokolips are more ideas than living things, and as long as they kill the stain never stops seeping.]

[She walks through the battlefield with perfect serenity because it's all hers, down to the literal angel of wrath that's attacking, and that means she has nothing to fear from it. The strange music isn't music at all, it's the strained subharmonics that result from reality bending until it cries uncle.]

[She whispers and her voice somehow booms from all directions and yet still stays nothing more than a whisper.]

||Accept the Word. Embrace negation.||

[Cultists that she passes act as if they're afflicted with ecstatic convulsions. "Penitant, for you. This is for you!" one of them calls out before throwing himself into a pit.]

|| Repent and go the way of flesh.||

BRAINY GET OUT OF THERE NOW!

[There's information-gathering and then there's facing down a Herald alone. Kid Quantum doesn't know who this 'Penitant' woman is but she sounds like a zealot and 'negation' sounds worse than 'destruction'.

Brainy needs to be hauling ass three minutes ago.

Briefing - (ooc: Go ahead and respond)

[personal profile] relativityspeaking 2017-09-23 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
Look alive, Legionnaires. I need everyone to head to the threshold hub and get ready to move out.

[Apparently she was right to tell everyone to suit up and wait for possible deployment, yaaaay. She can be seen flying to the threshold hub to deploy with then.]

You all heard Brainy. Apokolips isn't so much a planet as a war machine. If the Catastrophists manage to completely reignite it, and Chronoblivion's forces manage to take it, that could be it for us putting up any meaningful resistance to Chronoblivion.

The intelligence techs have already scoured the archive for records of an Eclipso and have come up with some intel. Apparently, she's an ancient supervillain who once plagued Earth, who claimed to be a former angel of God. Because [sigh] apparently we haven't had enough of those.

[She sends them all the file on her abilities.]

Alongside some pretty formidable superpowers, she has the ability to unleash the inner dark side of her victims, physically and mentally transforming them to toss them at her enemies.

Our number one priority is is this...Penitant. I want the team that engages her to try to draw her off Apokolips, if possible. We need to get her away from her followers. The last thing we need is for her to successfully take Darkseid's former throne for herself.

Second priority is stopping Eclipso before she converts anyone else. There are other Daxamites and powerful individuals on the garrison that could devastate our side if she's not stopped before converting more of them.

Third priority is those monsters. Brainy thinks he can cut off their access to Apokolips using the specialized T-gate once it's finished construction. We need to be able to safely reinsert the engineering team to complete it.

[Different orders are sent out to all of them, with specific attack patterns.]

Get ready to move.

Angel of Wrath, actually. Eclipso was the means by which God "punished the wicked and washed the world clean of vice and iniquity". [Does Nightwing sound like he's quoting? Because, yes, he's totally quoting.] The Spectre is actually a step DOWN, having been the one who stripped Eclipso of their power and rank and trapped them in a massive black diamond. [A small, mirthless smile here.] Somewhat ironically, the diamond had been mined on Apokolips.

Sunlight would be our greatest weapon against him, if we could find a way to generate it.
gonebyebye: (Hmm)

[personal profile] gonebyebye 2017-09-23 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That depends on if you mean sunlight in general, or sunlight specifically from Sol. Call me crazy, but if it's the second, I don't want to bring Eclipso anywhere near here. Not to mention the fact that the fact you know this means it's probably not a permanent or long term solution.

The Book has a permanent banishment spell that's designed to work on an entity of Eclipso's level, and some good suggestions on where to banish them to. Downside is it needs someone pure of heart to cast it on consecrated ground. Considering how easily I defeated my shadow self when we retrieved the Book, I might qualify for the former, but I doubt a place like Apokolips has any of the latter.
goddamnwingman: (Deep in thought)

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2017-09-23 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's specifically from Sol, but it probably has to be of the same sort of strength. Can't hurt to try it, no matter what. And no, it's not permanent by any means. For that, we'll need whatever piece of black diamond that Penitent has on her. It's the only way to even summon Eclipso in the first place.

I mean. Technically, Apokolips was the home of the New Gods. Depending on your definition, that could make the entire planet consecrated ground. It's a technicality, though, that I'm not comfortable depending on.
gonebyebye: (Hmm)

[personal profile] gonebyebye 2017-09-23 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
We may not need the diamond. When I say permanently, I mean barred from ever entering this dimension again.

Old Testament God was pretty much an asshole. It's not until the New Testament that you get them going, "Wait. Maybe wiping out an entire couple of cities because some people weren't being hospitable was a bit much."

[Dick's moving while doing this. It doesn't take much brain power for him to chatter and get other things done at the same time.]

IF Eclipso is working by the same rules as before, Penitent probably has a black diamond on her somewhere. If we can get that, we can use it to get Eclipso back under control. Along with the use of sunlight.

That's not the problem. I'm on call twenty three point eight hours of the day. [Not so much now that there aren't any sleep machines. [personal profile] iamresponding 2017-09-25 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
They left an entire planetary garrison to defend the planet and Kid Q had us on high alert ready to go, just in case. Seeing an enemy coming doesn't do anything if you lack the tech capacity to do anything about it at the time. I'm sure they would've moved or blown it up sooner if they had the ability, but we did just get some extra brainpower on this team recently that we didn't have before.

[Maybe that extra brain power is mostly from the under 5 set, but between Valeria and B6, now Brainy has extra help figuring out stuff like this. And Computo being around for a little while probably hadn't hurt.]

There are so many variables in play in this universe due to magic and tech that it's impossible to account for everything. Sometimes the best we can do is just try to be ready for a fight and adapt when we know the conditions. That's a reality to this superhero thing some of you need to get used to.

If Eclipso can bring out her victims' darkness, then could restoring their balance break her hold on them? Darkness cannot exist without Light; Discord cannot exist without Harmony.

[ His Orb of Harmony might be able to help, if not his words. If he could reach for the person inside the darkness... could that free them? ]
