[Recovering from her first major mission, Claire throws herself into a project she's been working on since she arrived. Today, it is nearing finished, although there are still some holes she needs to address. This she can't do without a bit of help. A video feed opens to Claire sitting at her desk in her office that is her habitat. You know, the one with the perfectly manicured and fabulously landscaped grounds? With the architecturally interesting buildings? Yeah, that one.]

[She smiles for the camera.]

Good evening, Legion. I hope everyone is recovering from the recent missions.

[She definitely took a spa day or two.]

If anyone is interested in a less active sort of mission, I have just the thing. I am looking for a handful of volunteers to travel with me to Korugar, Rann, and Tamaran for a goodwill PR tour. Each stop will involve a meet and greet, a Q&A panel, and signing, so be aware that we will be presenting the best face forward for the majority of this tour.

[She really wanted to punch that one reporter though.]

Garrus said you're familiar with this sort of thing?

[Uh-huh.]

Yeah, I'm high-profile enough back home I get reporters and the occasional fan chasing me. I've managed not to cause any incidents.

[Well. Not by attacking reporters, anyway.]

Something of a celebrity, I'm assuming?

I've led some pretty notable military actions, and I'm the first human to be appointed to a certain prestigious role--kinda like being a Legionnaire, actually.

[And then Shepard wildly undersold herself.]

[Out of courtesy, he's keeping video off. Pretty sure she isn't entirely comfortable with him yet, for whatever reason.]

If you're trying to put your best face forward, I should probably stay behind.

[Horrific facial scarring and his utter lack of tact don't really lend themselves to PR.]

You should talk to Shepard, though -- Sentinel. She's good with this sort of thing.

Yes, she's already contacted me. [It's a safe assumption, and she appreciates the gesture even if she doesn't form it into words.] Better than simply restraining herself from punching reporters, then?

She's good with a sound bite and, in the interest of fairness, the reporter she's referring to crossed a lot of lines.

Well, I guess it's good to know she's civil under pressure.

That's a little bit of an understatement, but yes. She can keep her cool and walk the line.

[pump_action]

[Slight, awkward pause.]

You're not half bad.

[For a terrifying space raptor.]

[There's a short, breathy laugh, then a long pause before he replies.]

[There's something melancholic about how he says it though. Like he's accepting the compliment, but he doesn't believe it.

You had me at "less active".

Mm, were you in the middle of the madness, in recent events?

[Poor Claire, thinking he meant he was simply in much a need of a vacation as the rest of them.]

Oh yeah. I am gonna need all the help I can get to reestablish the whole boundary between me and effort.

[pump_action]

[That's an ... interesting way of putting it.] Well, it's not a vacation, but it should be a deal less strenuous than everything we just went through.

"Unstrenuous" is perfect. Trust me, Claire. I got this.

[ He makes a confident little sweeping motion with one hand, as if clearing aside all need for concern. ]

[This sounds like exactly the sort of thing that Kubo needs to take his mind off his own troubles and right back on to Legionaire-ing.]

I'm interested! I'll prepare our best stories!

[pump_action]

Oh, yes! You're the boy who ... does the thing.

[She's heard about Kubo, although she's personally never really stopped to listen; busy business woman and all that. It does sound like the kind of thing that could use a storyteller and from what she could tell, he was particularly popular in that respect.]

[The stare that got from Kubo was about as dry as a desert.]

'The thing.' Sure. That's me.

[With his dry stare firmly pasted on, Kubo began a complicated riff of notes that called paper out of his pack. The paper flying through the air folded itself into a shape as like Claire as a piece of origami could be, and walked across a tabletop stage with an uncannily accurate mimicry of Claire's body language.

Right before the Paper Claire shifted into a swordfighting form mid-stride, and finished her crossing of the table stage with all the finesse of a samurai. Kubo's own act lifted the dry expression from his face, and by the time he'd silenced the strings on his instrument and let his paper unfold, he was smiling again.]

Do you mind if I introduce myself to the audiences, though? I'm not going to call myself 'The Boy Who Does the Thing.' No offense, but it just doesn't really set the stage the way I'd choose to.

[pump_action]

[Oh ... no ... not that look ... she'd gotten that look enough from her nephews. His music and origami skills are pretty impressive, though, and once he's smiling she does too.]

Absolutely! I just ... didn't know what it was called. [She's still not sure if she can describe it or label it properly, so better to just let the boy lead his little segment.]

I just call it storytelling.

Anyway, I have a lot of good stories to share with people after being here a while. Thanks for organizing this.

[He'd thank her for giving him something else to think about at this point in time, something other than how much he misses his mother and father, but well, there's no need to get so deep into feelings on a public recorded conversation.]

I haven't actually been on a mission yet, but do you have room for a newbie? Can't hurt to see what we're protecting beyond what I see on a screen.

[ there's an extended pause after claire introduces herself, like she's processing the name - which she is. "the director" reminds her of her father. ]

[To be fair, everyone's told her it was a terrible name but no one has really told her why. York got the closest with 'baggage']

It'll be good to have you, Carolina.

[Bedrock. She liked that. Sounded stable and reliable.]

[ carolina will probably tell her a little about it later, but she's not about to tell her right now. ]

It'll be nice to get out and about, do some talking.

[ even if... she's not the smoothest talker. ]

[Rico watches the post, bemused. Looks like this is her pet project. Just perfect for him to butt into. He presses the button on his onmicon to cut in delightfully on the conversation, talking with a professional demeanor without being too sickly sweet. He's sitting in his spartan crew quarters, the walls behind him a blank white.]

The Justice Department considers connecting with the populace a top priority, and certainly desires to maintain a positive relationship with the people we serve.

[A pause.]

I would be honored to volunteer my services for this mission.

[pump_action]

[.....]

[And suddenly the joy and eagerness she was feeling about the whole thing comes grinding to a halt. Is there a civil way she can tell him to fuck off? Ugh this can't be happening. She gives him one of her civil business smiles.]

Judge Dredd. I admit I am surprised you would have any interest willingly accompanying me on any mission.

[truefaceofthelaw]

[Rico gives a civil business smile back. Surprisingly, he does have one.]

It would be the perfect opportunity to make professional and personal amends as in keeping with the spirit of this endeavor, yes?

[pump_action]

[She tips her head slightly, thinking, before answering. No she doesn't trust him at all and would much rather they just keep their current status quo of avoiding each other as much as possible, but in a case like this she felt she had to be the model for which others (Rico included) could follow.]

It would be. Alright, I will pencil you in.

[truefaceofthelaw]

[Hmm. That was significantly easier than he'd thought. Maybe there was something to be said for acting polite after all.]

In that case, I certainly look forward to working with you. See you soon, Director.

[And with that, he saves his real smile for until after he cuts out from the feed. Give him an inch, and he'll take the whole mile. Her mistake.]

I'm interested. And I promise, I'm normally far more careful of the things I say than when we first talked.

[There's a bit of color across his cheeks because, yeah, Dick had forgotten where he was for a few minutes that day. Definitely not a mistake he'll make again.]

[She actually chuckles, able to look back on the memory with a bit of humor.]

What you say behind closed doors is your business, although I would warn you that we will have a minor in our midst.
